Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
Health is the biggest factor in Tummala rising more than anyone else with a jump of over 80 spots from the last update. After missing last summer and almost his entire junior season with an ACL tear, he showed this summer that he’s getting much closer to full strength and beginning to build on the promising flashes he showed as an underclassman. Tummala is a dangerous threat from beyond the arc with a pure stroke and a strong sense for finding open space on the perimeter. He has solid size and length with a sneaky ability to make some plays off the bounce. He could be a candidate to rise further moving forward as he puts his injury further in the rear view and could really benefit from a post-grad year to help make up for some lost time.

In a Sunday morning fire fight versus Cherry Hill East, Tummala gave the Pioneers the extra ammo to keep up. As a bigger guard, he slashed off the bounce and off the catch before laying the ball up over opposing guards. Tummala played off of his teammates and capitalized on their spacing even more by getting open off-ball for additional points. Then, he contributed to the spacing with two catch-and-shoot threes of his own. 18p 3r

Tummala is a wiry sophomore with a highly accurate 3-point shot. He possesses a quick release and logo distance range so opponents should pick him when he crosses half-court. Still, the most impressive element of Tummala’s game might be his well-timed off ball movements. He has knack for sliding along the arc into open space while staying in the ball handler’s line of vision. On Saturday, Tummala posted 11 points on the strength of 3 made triples in a tough loss to Coatesville. At the defensive end, Tummala is sneaky quick and has a long wingspan. The combination of those assets makes him a plus defender.

Tummala first grabbed our attention this summer at the Big Shot Philly Jam because of his lethal 3-point stroke with logo distance range. He was especially accurate on spot up 3PA from the wing. Then in September, Tummala proved he could produce points in a multitude of ways. When he is not raining in threes, Tummala can get into the mid-range off the bounce for stop-n-pops. He can also fill a lane on the break and then finish with either hand. His well-timed cuts and dives to the rim repeatedly lead to easy lay-ins. Tummala owns a high basketball IQ and fantastic court vision, so he crafty passer too.
