Uptown End of Summer Workout Underclassmen Standouts

While there was plenty of experience on the floor during Uptown's end-of-summer workout, some of the younger prospects in attendance made just as strong of an impression. The 2029 and 2030 classes featured an intriguing mix of guards, shooters, wings, and size, with several players looking ready to take a significant step forward this season. Here is a closer look at some of the underclassmen who stood out on Sunday.    The All-MHC 15U selection very much looked the part on Sunday afternoon, playing with both the 16U and 17U groups during the workout. A crafty creator off the dribble, Onwubiari is able to get to his spots and either find open teammates or score it himself. His combination of skill and IQ at an early age continues to impress, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him emerge as one of the more productive sophomores in the Philadelphia area this season.     Per went absolutely nuclear for a stretch on Sunday, knocking down four threes in the midst of a personal 16-2 scoring run. For one of the best shooters in the program regardless of class, it was just the latest showing in what has been an impressive summer. At 6-foot-3 with the ability to change a game quickly from behind the arc, colleges would be wise to get eyes on the young gunner sooner rather than later.     Sparkevicius' best basketball still lies well ahead of him, but at 6-foot-7 with range out to the three-point line, he's already pretty effective. With long arms and a nose for the ball, he also proved to be a plus rebounder despite spending the majority of his time on the wing. He's still growing both physically and within his game, but the combination of size and shooting touch makes him an interesting prospect to track as he continues to develop.     An interesting combo guard, Whitehurst was at his best cutting to the basket and either finishing or finding open teammates. One of the stronger players in attendance, he rebounded well and proved to be a good defender, jumping passing lanes to force turnovers while also cutting guards off from getting downhill. An impressive sophomore season appears to be on the horizon.     One of the youngest prospects in the gym on Sunday might eventually end up being one of the best if he continues on his current trajectory. A crafty and sneaky-athletic guard, Watson dazzled with his ability to create a bucket off the bounce. He's a creative finisher around the rim and owns a smooth jumper from range. Being at Philadelphia power Neumann-Goretti alongside other potential Division I athletes should only help accelerate his development over the coming years.     It's easy to see the long-term intrigue with Price, who is already a legitimate 6-foot-10 entering his freshman season. The Kingsway product has soft hands and good footwork for a young big man. While he's clearly still growing into his frame, his ability to set screens, rebound, and challenge shots should give him a chance to find the floor early in his high school career. With his size and developing skill set, he's one to keep an eye on over the next several years.
