Expert Analysis
Doneah Marshall | Prep Hoops Scout
Prestyn was arguably the best player on the court in Ambition 16U’s first matchup of the weekend. He scored at will on multiple levels en route to a team-high 17 PTS. He’s known for his efficiency going downhill, but his catch-and-shoot 3PT attempt was in rhythm and stood out amongst other qualities. Beyond his growing confidence as an outside threat, P did plenty of what he’s used to. His movement patterns can be deceptively unorthodox, which makes them that much more effective. He got to the rim and finished through contact with ease and displayed some crafty skills in doing so. Whether it was deploying a euro step in the fast break; using pump fakes to get his defender in the air; or creating second chance opportunities from offensive rebounds; P just seemed a step ahead of everyone on the court.

Prestyn’s name has been known name across the city of Louisville and possibly the state for a few years now. He was dubbed “Playoff P” after his monster performance in the 2024 7th Region tournament semifinals. Now a sophomore, Prestyn continues to be a key impact player for Seneca basketball and should play a big role for Ambition as well. He’s a bruiser from wherever he stands on the court – often using his strength to overpower opponents. His IQ, passing, and finishing around the rim are also strong areas of his game. Prestyn could enter the conversation as one KY’s top 2028’s once he becomes a more reliable threat from long distance.

Wheatley has been one of the more productive 2028 prospects at the varsity level the past two seasons and after a slow start to his sophomore season, he was dominant with a double-double performance in a win on the road over Seneca. Wheatley plays with a high motor and almost has a ‘bull in a china shop’ type aggressiveness and can go through defenders who aren’t prepared for him. I was encouraged by Wheatley’s perimeter shooting development and his rebounding on both ends of the court and the next step for Wheatley will be lowering his turnover numbers. Wheatley fits the gritty mentality Seneca plays with really well and I expect them to be a tough out in Louisville this year.

Prestyn is one of the most effective players in the class when it comes to lowering his head and getting to the rim. He’s going to score a lot of points for Seneca before his career is over and could even transition to point guard before all is said and done. Wheatley is going to need to continue developing his guard skills and become a knockdown shooter as his game keeps growing.

One of the most productive freshman in Kentucky, Wheatley was getting active as an eighth grader on varsity when I watched Seneca last year. A strong forward who wants to lower his shoulder and shoot with his left hand, Wheatley is tough to stop when he gets a head of steam. Wheatley also does a nice job of getting the ball back to his dominant hand with fakes and spins to get to an area where he’s comfortable finishing. An early bloomer, I’m excited to see where Wheatley expands his game as he continues to get reps in the gym. He’s already mastered some skills it takes upperclassmen years to develop, a very unique player to evaluate.

If you were going to want to win one game with any player from the camp, Prestyn may be my pick. Wheatley is very solid and very fundamental. He’s a crafty finisher and rebounds the ball well. He was one of Seneca’s best players last year and should be their go to scorer as a freshman.
