Muriithi remains the engine for PCN. Was quiet in the first half but when the team woke up in the second half, he was a large part of it. Complete with his signature rim rocking slams. Strong and tough, he’s quickly becoming one of the most impactful players in Oklahoma this high school season. And the college coaches are noticing as well. He’s collected recent offers from Neosho, Cowley and NOC Tonkawa.

Muriithi was a tone setting workhorse around the rim throghout the game. Grown man finishes at the basket. Incluiding dropping the hammer three times in the second half. The best display of his athleticism came when he corralled a longer offensive rebound, took one dribble to go by a defender, and then exploded off two feet for a momentum swinging slam. Muriithi shines because he knows his role on offense and brings a little bit of everything on the defensive end. Including the agility to coral and slow down attacking guards in transition and the halfcourt.

A powerful and explosive athlete, Muriithi had some jaw dropping plays during a State Tournament run. He often has “bad intentions” around the rim, on both ends of the court. From trying to posterize defenders, to swatting shots. What’s been interesting about his grassroots season is signs of his all around game evolving. Always a tweener in height, if his jumper and handle keep improving he might have a perimeter future at the next level. He has the raw traits to get his foot into the door with the raw talent to keep rising.

Muriithi is looking the part of a match up problem. Strong frame and good bounce makes him effective around the rim. Especially when he brings his hard hat mentality, and plays bigger than his size as he rises for blocks or cleans the glass. Can bully ball his way through guards. Also, he’s improving his jumper. Becoming a threat as a spot up option from three, and even capable of putting it on the deck a few times to hit in the mid-range. That improvement is giving him more versatility and a quicker path to making an impact at the collegiate level.

On a team filled with guards, Muriithi knows his role and goes to work around the basket. Physical frame and great vertical lift allows him to be a scrappy and tough rebounder. Nearly caught a body with an explosive dunk attempt following a steal he forced. Great example of knowing his role and starring in it, as he’s a key part of a strong PCN team. Where his impact goes beyond the box score.

Muriithi was one of those players who caught the eyes of those walking by his court. He makes plays that lead coaches/scouts wanting to see more. In Kansas City this was the case vs. Bentonville. He plays the forward spot for this team and causes mismatches. A strong shooter with a quick first step. At 6’5 he’s in that positionless mold. A really impressive looking prospect that holds a 4.0 GPA.

An athletic and aggressive wing prospect, Muriithi had flashes as a freshman reserve for Putnam City West. This was most evident with the occasional highlight reel slam, while also playing the gritty defensive style that is common place for Patriots. This spring he has enjoyed a strong grassroots season, showing off his potential as a game changer on both ends of the court. He’s a slasher and high energy guy right now on the offensive end. If his skill level can start to match his high energy, gritty playing style, he has the upside to be much higher in this class.
