Bobby Lopez | Prep Hoops Scout
Rhoades-Martinez set the tone from the opening tip and never let up, delivering a strong all around performance to lead South to victory. He poured in 15 points, attacking the rim and knocking down timely 3 point shots, but his impact went far beyond scoring. He controlled the glass with tough rebounds in traffic and kept the offense flowing with sharp, unselfish passes. His leadership and steady presence were the driving force behind South’s win

Rhoades-Martinez is trending in the right direction in his senior season as he’s delivered his most productive start yet. To srart the year, he’s averaging 8.7 points and 3 rebounds. He’s found a rhythm and continues to impact both ends. His 11-point, 2-steal performance last game showed his ability to swing stretches with energy and execution. He’s a steady four-year varsity piece who fills whatever role is needed. Rather it’s scoring, rebounding or defending, he steps in as that glue guy ready to do what needs to be done and has become an increasingly valuable fixture for this group.

Rhoades-Martinez is a smart team first player who always seems to be in the right place at the right time. He moves with purpose, finds open space on the floor and makes defenses pay when they lose track of him. Whether it’s cutting to the rim, spotting up on the wing, or slipping into the midrange, he knows how to make himself available and convert. He’s quick and decisive with the ball, attacking when he sees a lane and finishing strong through contact. Rhoades-Martinez doesn’t force the game and plays within the flow and elevates everyone around him. That blend of efficiency, awareness and versatility is why he’s ranked where he is, and it’s what has us excited to see him take another step forward this season. With his instincts and all around polish, he’s the kind of player every coach wants on the floor when it matters most

Rhoades Martinez is a composed guard who leads with emotion and effort. He consistently made plays on both ends, hitting threes, pressuring the ball, and showcasing a reliable mid-range pull-up. His energy never wavered, setting the tone with how hard he played. He’s under control at all times and was a player that teammates made sure to find and rely on. I like what I saw from him on Day 1 as a player to keep tabs on. Solid outing for him.

Rhoades-Martinez still brings upside as a three point shooter from prior seasons, comfortably relocating off the ball to keep his defender guessing. Although the three point has not fallen at the rate of previous seasons, his confidence has not wavered, leaving possibility of regression back to the mean. With the sharpshooting of the other backcourt names of this group, Rhoades-Martinez’s prior success from distance could be an area to catapult this group into one of the highest upside offensive teams in 6A.

A confident shot taker, Martinez looks to be an important floor spacer for South yet again. Brining a high release and quick feet, the guard has no trouble quickly setting up for movement shots in space. Capable of flowing into movement shot attempts along the perimeter, Martinez has no trouble getting to such looks through contests.

Martinez has been a consistent perimeter shooter throughout the spring, dependable off the catch. Even through contests, the guard is dependable off the catch. Far from just a shooter, the guard competes on the defensive end, a large reason for his steady minutes last season at Denver South. His positional strength allows him to compete on the glass, active diving for loose balls or ripping it away from opposing rebounders.
