Malvern looked to be in midseason form while coasting to back-to-back wins on Saturday morning, with Reed running the show and controlling the point of attack as he’s done since day one as a freshman starter. Among the fastest end-to-end guards in the region, Reed controlled the pace while putting consistent pressure on the paint whether to score or set up teammates for easy looks after sucking in the defense. Traditionally more of a downhill driver and midrange artist, he showed increased confidence from the perimeter including pulling up for multiple 3s in transition. Reed’s quickness, IQ, and two-way leadership should make him a popular target for scholarship-level coaches up to the D1 level, particularly those who favor an uptempo attack.

This spring Reed has done an impressive job of balancing his own scoring opportunities with operating as a point guard who gets his teammates involved. This fast and crafty floor general scored at all three levels. Reed’s live dribble passing was also impressive, especially on the fast break. This past weekend, Reed pulled in an offer from Drexel.

MVP for the Black Team…An elusive exciting playmaker. Shifty and cat quick he has touch to score over and around length, stroke the perimeter jumper out to 17-20 feet and an innate ability to find cutters and deliver pinpoint and timely passes. Terrific vision and passing skills. Quick hands and feet and a harassing on ball defender who can snatch it away from you in the blink of an eye! Relentlessness and scrappy impact as a playmaker and defender.

In a setting built for guards to steal the show, Reed seized the opportunity as the start-to-finish engine for the Black team. An absolute blur with the basketball, Reed was a consistent sparkplug in transition, often creating opportunities himself as a pest on the defensive end. He regularly found his way into the lane where he was able to convert himself at the rim, stop and pop from the foul line area, or keep his head up to find the open man. Reed showed his evolving range out to the arc as well on a pair of pullup 3s, which will be key for his college projection. His infectiously energetic blend of scoring and playmaking for others made Reed an easy choice for MVP honors for the Black team.

While his teammate Zion Green’s highlight reel dunks from the Pro 16 / NXT Pro event in California were getting plastered all over social media this past weekend, Reed was running the show for Team ASP. Reed’s live dribble passing in transition was impressive. He dropped several creative dimes that caught opponents by surprise. On the fast break, Reed also got to the rim for lay-ins and knock down a few stop-n-pops. In the half-court, Reed got into the lane and then slipped passes to the dunker spots and executed kick outs. His ability to hit cutters with precise dimes was impressive too Plus, this past weekend Reed scored at all three levels.

Reed is well known as an elusive off the bounce scoring point guard. Still, you do not appreciate what he is truly capable of doing with the rock in his hands until you watch Reed in an up-tempo game like those at the Donofrio Classic. Wednesday night, Reed (15 pts.) thrived in that fast-paced environment as he continually beat his man off the dribble for pull-up jumpers, runners, and lay-ins. He also distributed off the dribble to open teammates. Reed’s use of jump stops is impressive, and his overall footwork is extremely polished for a 2027.

The other freshman starter in Malvern’s backcourt last year, Reed was handed the ball from day one at the lead guard spot, so it figures he would look like a chiseled veteran by just this late stage in his sophomore year. With blinding speed off the dribble and rapidly quick hands/feet guarding the ball, he consistently dictates the pace of the game while looking to push tempo and speed up opposing guards. He’s learned to harness his speed impressively to finish under control among the trees, with increasingly frequent flashes of consistent pullup shooting to keep defenses honest. Along with his teammate in Harken, Reed figures to be a hot name among Northeast D1 programs in the years to come.

Early on this season Reed has tended to operate as a pass first primary ball handler. However, on Wednesday night, Reed showed Episcopal Academy his full bag of scoring skills and led MP to victory. In that win for MP, Reed was a dribble drive wizard who got downhill in transition as well as in the half-court. Reed’s change of direction and speed moves were impressive. Once Reed was in the lane, he unleashed floaters, popped short jumpers, and scored at the rim. When he got to the cup, Reed finished with a creative flair or drew a whistle. At the free throw line Reed shot an amazing 8 for 8. On the night Reed registered a season high 27 points (1 three) to go along with 6 assists.

Reed has a different gear than everyone else when he has the ball, able to get end-to-end in an instant with his pure speed. The former soccer player constantly has defenders on their heels because they know he can turn on the gas and speed by them or stop on a dime for a middy. He’s a blur on defense too with how frequently he creates turnovers.
