Once again a CHSAA guard goes to a very high major. Markell will be a UCLA Bruin next season. He is a point who can run the team on the floor or score buckets when neeeded. Confident ball handler. Gets into the lane and can score. Outstanding vision. Competes guarding the ball just as hard as with the ball. Through hard work he improved his three point shooting which is a testament to him getting this offer.

Alston does a good job of setting the table as a floor general and has great pulse on the game. He musters his way to the bucket. Alston picks what the defense gives him and can make tough reads of defenses on the fly. Alston is able to play at different speeds and pick and chooses his spots in the flow of the game. He is effective in transition going coast to coast. He needs to take a jump as a perimeter shooter.

Excellent court vision. Confident ball handler. Can handle it in space but can break down double teams as well. A real nice pull up game. Through hard work he has become a reliable three ball shooter. Excellent in transition. Understands the importance of sometimes pulling up on the break and knocking down a 12 footer.

The head of the snake for a high-octane, guard-heavy CTK lineup, Alston provided a consistent spark en route to the win as all four starting guards finished in double-figures. A pure setup man who thrives getting downhill and touching the paint, Alston keeps things simple using his size/strength and a compact handle to break his man down and make the proper read from the lane. He also shows ability to be an impactful defender at the point of attack. We’d like to see him work to extend the range on his jumper to better open up defenses, but the ability to run a team and defend should lead to D1 suitors into the spring signing period.
