Filling the void of KJ Terry and Aden Jeffries will not be easy and certainly not done with one person. Makhai is the perfect starting point to help in the backcourt with AJ. He fits this system well with his offensive versatility and two-way upside. He’s coming off a sophomore campaign where he vastly improved from a numbers and eye test perspective. After nearly doubling his production from freshman to sophomore year, another leap from Makhai will be needed for the Spartans.

In the summer, Makhai was highly productive for Garner Road National Team. He was more comfortable operating without the ball in his hands and shot the ball extremely well. The athleticism has grown as well, with how explosive he looks blowing by defenders and getting to the rim. Defensively he’s able to guard bigger players and that side of the floor is something the Spartans should be really excited about. Alternating ball handling duties with AJ gives the Spartans the ability to do a bunch of different things offensively. This prevents defenses from doubling or blitzing AJ or Makhai off ball screens because of their passing ability. Makhai’s versatility blends well with AJ’s skillset, and he should be a huge addition in the Spartans quest to repeat.
