He scored the ball in different ways throughout the game from behind the arc, at the foul line, off of 2nd chance efforts, using spin moves, and navigating to the rim. Weiland finished with 23 points before being taken out in the early 4th quarter when they were up by a landslide. He did a nice job screening which opened up space for his teammates to create. I like how he was able to finish through contact on more than several occasions. He used his length to alter shots. Weiland could improve on his defense and got caught up over frequently when over playing in the zone. I want to see him take of the basketball he had way too many turnovers throughout the night. Want to also see him secure more defensive boards than trying to bat them around. He should be a walking 20 and 15 with the competition he goes up against just with his size advantage he has. He is tracking as a scholarship prospect.

Weiland had a double double and battled foul trouble for almost the entire fourth quarter. He added 15 points scoring froma mixture of spots but mostly around the bucket and at the foul line. He did a nice job timing shots and rejecting them which saved a few buckets. Weiland also had a few assists. He did a nice job of jumping passing lanes and turning defense to offense. He was very engaged in the game. A few things I would like to see him work on are cutting down his turnovers either keeping the ball high when he rebounds it when smaller guards are pestering him. I would like to see him be more of a threat as a slasher off the ball at times I feel like he is glued to the invisible magnet on the three point line. Weiland also gets caught ball watching on defense and doesn’t, need to over extend on the defensive end there were more than a few occasions where him over playing allowed for easy Deer Lakes buckets.

He heard from Holy Cross, Pepperdine, Lafayette, & Cornell. He continues to develop with time and should see more schools get involved throughout his junior year. Weiland impacts the game on either end and has great timing when going up to alter shots. He can be effective around the dunker spots and shows flashes as a shooter from mid-range. The biggest thing with him is hoping he can fall in love with the weight room and work on becoming stronger which I think can happen over time.

A high upside prospect, Weiland checks the boxes you look for in stretch forwards both physically and skill wise. A fluid mover for his size, Weiland can play on the perimeter on both ends by attacking closeouts and switching onto guards defensively. Combine those skills with a couple dunks in the half-court and a smooth looking jumper and I expect Weiland’s recruitment to spike with Nova Village this summer.
