Expert Analysis
Duvalier Johnson | Prep Hoops Scout
Carlson first caught our attention back in April, and there’s been enough there to warrant bringing him into the rankings. At 6-foot-3, he’s a strong guard who plays with patience you don’t always see from young players. We also saw him at the Expo and he showed that he could get defenders off balance around the basket, plays well off two feet and doesn’t rush himself when traffic arrives. Carlson is comfortable with the ball in his hands and is also capable of running the offense which showcases his versatility. The varsity game will test that patience against more physical defenders. He doesn’t need to walk in and be a primary option, but if Carlson can protect the ball, finish and use his size from the guard spot, there are ways for him to earn trust and build from there. He’s now on the rankings this go round.

Landon showed out in a blowout opening night win for State 38. The 6’3″ sophomore guard is so smooth and was making finishes around the basket look very easy. He is patient with the ball in his hands and was great at playing off of two feet around the rim, getting defenders in the air with pump fakes. Carlson is a tough and strong guard, who looked really good running the show for his team.

Carlson stood out with his length and polished shooting ability in a strong offensive showing. He looked every bit like a pure shooter, knocking down shots with a smooth, confident stroke. His range stretched the defense and forced opponents to stay attached well beyond the arc. What also impressed was how he got to his spots, moving with purpose and creating clean looks for himself. Carlson’s combination of size and shooting made him a tough matchup
