Stanciu is a great gap-filler because he does a lot of the little things and is efficient with the shots he takes. He can hit from three, does a great job recognizing space around the key to get there and get shots off quickly. He also is a tough rebounder and defender, and has shown an ability early on this year to finish over bigger guys inside, seeking out contact and going right at them.

Here’s a kid who never tries to do too much or play outside of his game, but is ready to go, is engaged throughout possessions, and just makes plays with his awareness and toughness. He had some nice follows for tip-ins on the offensive glass, made hard cuts down the middle to bail teammates out of pressure and get to the rim, and is a strong kid with the ball who can finish in the paint and handle some contact.

Listed as a forward but with his size he projects more as a guard. Even so, he is a tough player who can mix it up on the glass and shows no fear scoring in the paint. Kind of a gap-filler who gets involved in any way he can, finding open space with cuts on the offensive end, anticipating rebounds well, and playing tough defense. Just a player who brings great activity to the floor.

The sophomore guard showed up with tough play against Bellarmine, knocking down shots early on and keeping a steady stream of activity on both ends throughout the game. He’s listed as a guard/forward and he can play around the rim because he’s so tough and scrappy, but he also brings it defensively and guards well on the perimeter. He sank two huge free throws with 5.3 seconds left in the game to seal the win for Olympia and help them move onto the next round of the SPSL tournament.
