Expert Analysis
Ryan Morgan | Prep Hoops Scout
Stevenson bulked up a bit entering this season, and it has really shown up in his downhill attacks and ability to bounce defenders back. He’s not a kid you want to give space to get a head of steam. He has enough agility to change direction and get angles on defenders that allow him to get in close, and he’s also shown a pretty effective spin move and drop steps from traditional post-ups.

Stevenson did a solid job last season, stepping into Olympia’s starting five and providing some scoring and rebounding down low. He’s a kid who has consistently gotten better creating to the hoop, knocking down jumpers with more efficiency, and playing out of different spots. They’ll be looking to him to pick up his usage and scoring this winter, and the athletic forward looks up for the task.

Stevenson has been a big riser in his class over the last year and now comes into this winter playing a key role for 4A Olympia. In their win over Bonney Lake he was a key guy around the paint, ripping down rebounds and dropping in shots in close. He did a lot of work before the catch that paid off huge, hustling down the floor and fighting his way into good position down low, as well as rim-running in transition and really looking to get the ball in good spots where he could use his strength to quickly go up and finish.

Stevenson’s a big kid who’s displayed some powerful finishing both working in close and out in transition. Besides power and athleticism, he’s shown great growth handling the rock, knocking down jumpers, and learning how to attack from different spots. He should be a big piece for Olympia this season and is rapidly growing his IQ on the court.

Brian is a big time athlete who has been throwing down big time athletic dunks all summer long. His ball handling has been improving steadily as he is working to be a more versatile player by being able to play on the wing at an elite level. He rebounds really well, being physical down low and agressive off the glass.

A big-time athlete in the frontcourt, Stevenson has gotten on the end of some big dunks in transition and has recently shown some really good work on the blocks and on the glass. He’s a kid who can grab the board and take it the length of the floor with some good straight-line speed. He’s able to outwork and outmuscle a lot of kids at this point and will be a kid to watch in the next session.

Brian is a lengthy wing who can handle the ball well and finish at the rim smoothly. His jump shot is steady and will only keep improving, similar to his inside post game.

Stevenson makes this group because of his size and ability to get downhill. He has the straight-line speed to get out in transition and on the end of a break, and also has the strength and finishing capabilities to score off of rolls and rebounds. He could be a nice addition to Olympia’s front court this winter.
