Rivera’s shooting was key in Archbishop Stepinac’s upset of Prolific Prep as he went 7-for-10 from three and knocked them down in a variety of ways. The 6-foot-6 wing used his positional size, long, wiry frame and high release to shoot over the top of closeouts. Rivera was consistent with his shot prep which led to him having repeatable mechanics and a quick release. The senior was also pulling isolation and off-bounce threes in addition to movement threes coming off of hand-offs.

Rivera is a three time champion, he’s been a big part of the rotation for multiple seasons and he’s now ready to take over Senior year. He’s already been turning heads in the preseason games agiainst some serious competiion. His shot making is on full display, he has the ball in his hands more, he’s more aggressive and physical. The sky is the limit for this young man and apparently USC wants in as they offered him just a few days ago. Could the Trojans be making a Stepinac pipeline.

The three time champion will look to cement his own legacy as one of the leaders this season. He’s in search of his 4th straight title, he’s primed for his biggest role yet and this team will need him to step up if they want to repeat. Rivera is a deadly from three off the catch, he’s got nice size, will be asked to help on the boards and help the youngsters with communication. Big year for Mr. Rivera who is still unsigned.

Many in New York consider Rivera the top shooter in the CHSAA because of his excellent form and smooth release. He’s deadly from the corner, he knows how to get open, run off screens and definitely has the green light from his coaching staff. His footwork is excellent, he can use his shot yo create for others, he does a great job at relocating and always has his hands ready. Stepinac will look for him to break open and help them separate in a ton of games this season.

Josh missed a few games but when it came time to show off his game when completely healthy he did in the playoffs as Stepinac won all the city titles there were. A lanky long guard with really good size. Uses his size to shoot or look over players. He a volume shooter. He can score the ball in a variety of ways. Excellent shooter from the perimeter . Real nice mid range game where he can get to his spot and rise up over his defender. Really good defender.

He served as an effective secondary ball handler and made a strong read to find the right corner shooter for an open three. He added a right corner spot‑up three of his own and knocked down a catch and shoot three from the top of the key. He shot the ball with a pure, confident release, and the reigning CHSAA Player of the Week finished a perfect 4‑for‑4 from beyond the arc.

Rivera is a guard with nice size who brings a smooth, confident game to the floor. He can absolutely heat up from three, knocking down shots off the catch and with space off the dribble. His upside is high because he already has the tools, and his game looks like it’ll keep expanding as he gets stronger and more consistent. Rivera plays with good pace and doesn’t force the action, letting scoring chances come naturally within the flow. He also crashes the glass well for a guard, using his size and instincts to come up with extra possessions. Defensively, he competes, stays engaged, and uses his length to bother ball-handlers and contest shots. Overall, he’s a two-way guard who can space the floor, impact winning in multiple areas, and keep trending upward.

Expect Josh to possibly be in the top 10 next season. Right now he is playing behind and with a bunch of D1 players on the Stepinac roster. But when you watch him you see his talent and excellent skillset. A shot maker. High volume shooter. Really good perimeter shoote. Uses his size to defend and also to score over players.
