Expert Analysis

Johnny had a solid high school career but never quite broke out like I was expecting after watching him have a huge game last season. A stretch big, Djema can really shoot the ball and I’m a little surprised he didn’t get to attempt more threes in his Senior season. He remains a top available Senior.

Doerr’s teammate, Johnny is a long and athletic 4 man who likes to step out and shoot threes. A high academic player, he could be a difference maker at the D3 level.

Djema is a good shooter at 6’8 and plays with a good motor. Johnny has a tendency to float around the perimeter a little too often but he can score around the rim and is an excellent shot blocker thanks to his length and bounciness.

Evangel Christian is loaded with talent and is the likely favorite to win the All A State title as well as the 6th Region. After losing Cyr Malonga to graduation, the hopes for a deep run to Rupp Arena could be pinned on Johnny and his ability to replicate some of the interior presence that Malonga provided. Djema likes to roam around and shoot threes but he should combine with Ben Tshaka to be a strong force on the interior for the Eagles.

With Cyr Malonga graduating, Johnny Djema Johnny Djema 6'8" | PF Evangel Christian | 2024 State KY will use his size to step up as one of the main Eagle’s big men. Djema averaged 6.3 points and 4.7 rebounds, but look for him to have a more significant role in the scoring column and on the boards. There’s a lot of potential for Evangel Christian this season and Johnny will be a key piece.

Johnny is one of the bigger sleepers in the class in Kentucky in my opinion. That’s probably because he’s played well every time I’ve seen him and never seen him play poorly so I likely have at least a little bit of a bad evaluation on him. Nevertheless, I watched Djema hit 6 threes in a game in February. In addition to his rim running and shot blocking, Johnny is an overlooked player in my opinion.

One of our biggest risers in the update, Djema is a long and athletic stretch 4 with the ability to protect the rim on defense and is a good finisher on the offensive end. Looking forward, Johnny is one of the higher potential prospects in the class thanks to his size and athleticism as well as his shooting ability.

Staying at Evangel, Johnny had a really good season and rises from 29 to 14th in this update. Djema has shown he can play stretch 4 as he made a ton of perimeter shots and hit 4 in the game when I happened to be in the gym. Long and athletic, Johnny could see his stock take off with a big AAU season. He has all the tools to be a big recruit.
