We got our first look at Norey when attending Merrillville High School open gym back in the fall prior to the season. He immediately caught our attention in that setting and did so once again at the Bill Hensley Memorial Run N Slam playing with Darius Garland P32 16u. The 6’6″ forward runs the floor so well and has a ton of upside on the roll and on the rim run. He rebounds at a high level and flashes some defensive upside as well. Norey is one to watch in Merrillville’s current sophomore class.

There are two sophomore guards at Merrillville that get a lot of attention, and rightfully so, but this sophomore forward has a lot of upside as well. We first identified Norey when attending their open gym in the fall and saw him again at the Phil Cox Memorial Holiday Tournament. The Pirates fell to Charlestown 62-55 in overtime, but this 6’5″ sophomore forward flashed his upside once again. He finished with 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Norey is a good passer with excellent hands and feet for a young big man. As he continues to grow into his body his game will really take off.

Our first time getting to see this young big man was when making our trip up to The Region and stopping by a preseason workout at Merrillville High School. Not only did Norey quickly stand out due to his size at 6’5″, but he played with an excellent motor and flashed some real skill on the offensive end of the floor. He hit a couple of face-up three-point shots, consistently finished inside with some tough catches, and was active on the glass. Norey will get a chance to play as a sophomore for the Pirates and skill has his best basketball years ahead of him. He is definitely one to keep on eye on in Indiana’s Class of 2028.
