Expert Analysis

Konkol had an outstanding first night at the St. Louis Showcase. The junior has continued to build on his 13.3 points per game average from the state tournament last month. Konkol poured in 18 points against a very good Jamal Shead Elite team. Ethan is an outstanding shooter that started the game hot. This one was up and down with a lot of scoring, and Konkol showed his quick release both off the bounce and in catch-and-shoot situations. Unfortunately for his Southern Assault Texoma team, they could not get stops in the second half as Jamal Shead Elite shot over 50% from beyond the arc.

What an evolution of Konkol’s game as a junior. Has developed into one of the more reliable floor spacers in the junior class. Starting to even having some sauce when ran off the line and scoring in the mid-range. Was one of the four Commandos in double figures with 15 points in this dub. Eager to see his confidence continue to grow this grassroots season, as Konkol has turned the corner into being a bonafide collegiate prospect.

The sharpshooter went for 17 points including three triples. He also got loose around the rim a few times because he’s a smart off the ball mover and efficient with his shot selection. Given his positional size it was good to see him come up with a couple steals. As a willingness to mix it up more on defense, especially for rebounds and loose balls will help Cascia greatly in their pursuit of Gold.

Konkol has broke out this year as a player who stars in his role for 4A contenders Cascia. His role is simple, hit open shots. Especially from three. He torched Texas program Hebron with 6 threes early on to kick off his season. And has kept it going throughout the year. Impressed in person back in December when he went off in the first half against 6A contender Norman. With an outstanding group of fellow juniors, Konkol could be overlooked at times. But he’s the type of shooter who could swing games in the biggest moments during the playoff run.

Konkol is a Junior sharpshooter with great size for the high school level. And he could not miss in the first half. Fitting for a coach’s son, he has textbook release and let it fly with confidence as a floor spacing threat. Impressive to see him swing a big game, as Cascia controlled the first half against one of 6A’s best teams. He cooled off in the second half. But he had the type of shooting stretch that the Commandos will need come March to contend for the Gold Ball in 4A.
