Decatur Central had an excellent season going 20-7 overall and advancing to the Class 4A South Semi-State before falling to eventual champion Mt. Vernon (Fortville). Zapata was a big part of that success showcasing his impressive two-way versatility throughout the season. The 6’4″ wing/forward averaged 14.0 points and 7.2 rebounds per game for the Hawks. He is one of the top unsigned seniors on the board and jumped from #132 to #71 in this final update. One of the biggest stock-risers in the class.

The physical, versatile inside-out forward was making plays on both sides of the ball with his effort. He’s a mismatch problem for his size. He had a nice blend of size, strength, and speed. He can take smaller defenders down on the block and punish them while also being skilled on the perimeter to use his speed to get past them or shoot over the top. Defensively, he’s effective guarding bigs or guard with the same intangibles as he has on the offensive end. He has good foot speed and length to keep up with guards while having the strength to guard bigger players down in the post.

One of the top under-the-radar senior prospects in the greater Indianapolis area, Zapata has been a key part of Decatur Central’s 5-1 start to the season. The versatile 6’4″ wing/forward posted a double-double of 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 assists on Tuesday night as the Hawks dominated Indianapolis Lutheran 77-50. Zapata has impressive athleticism and strength to match his inside-out game. He made two three-point shots, but was really dominant inside of 15-feet.

Decatur Central has really made some noise to begin this season. They are off to a 4-0 start after Tuesday night’s 71-55 win over Greenfield-Central. Zapata, an under-the-radar senior wing posted a double-double of 27 points and 12 rebounds for the Hawks. Small college programs should make it a point to get out and evaluate Zapata.

A versatile senior wing/forward, Zapata finished with a double-double of 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 assists on Wednesday nigh to lead Decatur Central High School over Tri-West 74-54. The 6’4″ Zapata is an intriguing prospect for small college programs to get eyes on this winter.

We didn’t get a chance to see Zapata when attending Decatur Central High School’s open gym, but the versatile 6’4″ wing had a very good summer. He stood out with some big performances at the Charlie Hughes Showcase proving himself as a pure scorer from all over the floor. Look for Zapata to potentially lead the Hawks in scoring this season and garner a good deal of small college attention throughout his senior season.

Zapata really made a name for himself at the Charlie Hughes Showcase with a couple of big games for Decatur Central High School. The versatile 6’4″ wing/forward scored 26 points in a win over Bloomfield that we watched and backed it up with 17 points in an impressive win over Merrillville. He is excellent at attacking closeouts, effective in transition, and more than capable of making open catch-and-shoot three-point shots.
