Onwe came off the bench for New Hampton yesterday but really impressed me with his energy and versatility. The 6-foot-6 forward has phenomenal strength and athleticism, so he can defend guards on the perimeter and also big men in the paint. He fights for rebounds on both ends and does lots of little things. Offensively, the lefty gets to his spin move quite often and finds success finishing above the defense. Onwe projects as a plug-and-play scholarship player who can play in virtually any system because of his ability to defend multiple positions, run the floor, and play hard. If he improves his shot, I could imagine him getting some D1 looks.

Onwe is an active undersized forward who plays a lot bigger than his size. He makes a living on the boards and has an elite motor. Onwe is effective absorbing contact when going up for scoring chances. He can guard different positions. He should see traction at the small college level with his recruitment.

Onwe is a small forward by way of San Antonio, Texas, who has an intriguing and unique set of skills to bring to New Hampton. The lefty is a fantastic rebounder and defender for his size who held his own against far larger big men. He’s very disciplined and an absolute dog on that end of the floor. He has some really strong southpaw takes to the rim and can also hit the middy, but I bet he’ll be a little things guy — and an excellent one at that — for a New Hampton team looking to make another run to the NEPSAC Class AAA championship.

I caught the SA Future team on Friday night and they had a nice run deep into the bracket championship. I was impressed with the team defense of their group, not giving up many easy shots and really working on that end. Onwe had good length and blocked a couple shots at the rim on that end and played physical. Offensively Onwe had a couple transition buckets and was capable of spacing the floor if given time and space. I enjoyed watching this SA Future team compete and Onwe stood out on Friday evening.

Lefty with a go-to stepback was Edison Onwe. The 6-foot-5-inch wing displayed Good athletic abilities, covering ground aggressively, challenging and stopping dunks at the rim, and using his long strides and quick bounce to create and get off a shot against defense.
