McCauley, a sophomore forward out of Portsmouth High School, has some of the most intriguing long term potential of any prospect in the class. He’s a long and athletic 6’7″ that plays hard on both ends of the floor and is just scratching the surface of his potential. He averaged 5.7 points per game as a freshman, but that number could triple this winter and doesn’t tell the whole story of his game. He’s an uber-versatile defender, high level two-way rebounder, and flies up and down the floor in transition. There might not be a better public school duo in New England than McCauley and his teammate,

McCauley is an active bodied forward who makes his presence felt by having a nose to make hustle plays for the good of his team. He is in good spots on the floor to shag rebounds. He has no issue making plays on defense and has the ability to be a chase down artist. His big frame allows him to eat up space on the interior. He scored many shots inside the two point line and is a magnet for cashing in on chances from there. His ability to move without the ball is one of his better tendencies.

McCauley is a wing/forward that impacts the game in various ways on both ends, as was evident in Mass Rivals games against NY Wiz Kids 16s and Midwest Basketball Club 16s. The 6-foot-6 McCauley is active on the boards, has enough handle to push the ball off the glass, is a quick leaper to get putbacks on the offensive glass, moves well off the ball on back cuts to get easy lay-ups off the bounce pass, and has good touch on the floater down the lane. McCauley is effective enough to space the floor with the 3-ball, which will open up opportunities for him as his overall skill set expands. Great motor and relentless effort on both ends of the court.

McCauley, coming off a strong freshman campaign at Portsmouth, has exploded onto the scene with his athleticism and versatility for the Mass Rivals. One of the top athletes in his class, he does a great job of making plays at the rim in the open floor. He’s a fluid mover, plays with a high motor, and is a strong finisher as a slasher or cutter. He has the ability to make plays off the bounce, should continue to improve as a perimeter shooter, and can guard up and down a lineup with his combination of size, strength, and agility.
