For other teams, Edmondson might need to score more. Still when he does score for Dale, they’re impactful and needed points. After a sluggish second quarter saw Dale start the second half with a narrow lead by their usual standards; it was a pair of threes from the senior PG that silenced any chance of a comeback. Including a nice hesi pull up. His scoring was a key part of a 18-0 run to start the second half. Finished with 10 points and added another win to his illustrious career of winning.

Winning is the production that matters the most, right? And that’s what Edmondson does, win. The heady guard has been a key part of the winning machine that has been Pirate basketball. And they’re once again the favorite in Class 2A, in large part because Edmondson has stepped up as a senior. It started last year when he looked more confident and quicker on the ball, which complimented his great vision and reading of the game. He’s a mid-range master now, while also still dropping dimes all over the place. The coach’s son now has the opportunity to earn a rare accolade, four state titles. It’s even more impressive, as he’s been making plays for those title teams since he was a freshman.

Another prospect with an impressive resume of winning, Edmondson is an unselfish guard who made a step as a junior. And has taken an even bigger leap for his senior year. He’s super quick, not only with his feet but with the way he processes the game. Outstanding vision and quick hands make him a perfect image of a coach’s son. The quick processing of the game extends to how he plays defense, being a loose ball magnet and opportunistic defender.
His mid-range jumper was money last year, and now has started his senior year with more efficiency as a shooter from beyond the arc. Type of prospect who shows the value of gradual hard work can turn a player from a good high school player into a future collegiate player. As there’s always a home for traditional point guards. Who not only improve teammates during games, but during practice as well.

The machine that is Dale basketball has continued to roll this June. After making strong strides, especially physically as a junior, Edmondson looks set to make another jump as a senior. Looked more comfortable looking for his own shot today, with a pull up that is starting to more consistently extend to beyond the arc. Remains a heady guard who can also set the table, with drives that set up slip passes to teammates at the rim or kickouts. The coach’s son has already won a lot of games in the Pirates uniform and based on Monday, he’ll be adding even more wins and trophies to his resume.

proved to be a great playmaker for his team. One thing that stuck out to me almost immediately about him is that he was playing great defense and giving everything he had: forcing turnovers, coming away with steals, and fighting through ball screens, while he looked to set his teammates up on the other end. There were several times that he threaded the needle with a well-placed pass. It almost seemed like he had a sixth sense to detect when and where his teammates were at all time, even when they were cutting. As we got further into the game, he showed that he can score. There was one time that he utilized a nice pumpfake, drove the close out, and finished at the rim. He had a couple of finishes at the rim. This is a true playmaker that plays great defense. His playstyle reminded me of players like John Stockton or Jrue Holiday.

Edmondson is quietly one of the more improved players in the state. He always had the look of a player who stirs the drink for his team. Good passer, hit the occasional jumper but at times it felt passive. The junior plays with improved strength and quickness, most evident when attacking and gaining separation on pull ups. As any coach’s son should have, his court vision and accuracy and passing are top tier. The togetherness, effort and unselfishness, of Dale are arguably their greatest strengths. And Edmonson’s play is one of the best examples of those core tenants.

It was noticeable in the opening night victory over Preston that Edmonson looked stronger and more comfortable as a scorer. For the past two years he was already a key component of the roster as a player who elevated his teammate’s floors with quality passing and understanding of the game. But he’s more confident as a scorer as he enters his junior year. And seems to be developing a habit of popping up in the right place, at the right time to make big defensive plays in the backcourt that turn into instant offense for him.

Dale’s success for the last two years has been built on a team that shares the ball and a variety of players stepping up each game. From the onset, Edmonson was a tone setter for Dale, especially as a pesky point of attack defender. He’s always been a smart ball mover and passer, but this year he now looks to be improved as a defender and shooter. Whenever he was left open, he was automatic. And was comfortable stepping into one-two dribble movements to either burry jumpers or fire pinpoint passes to his teammates. He also had a great gritty defensive play, where he won a 50-50 ball in the half court and converted it into an “old fashion” three point play. Edmonson is a great example of how Dale is a team that is greater than the sum of its parts. And the Pirates’ parts are pretty high quality in their own right.
