As he often is, Wilkins was quite easily the best player on the court for either team Wednesday. He has a three-level offensive game and can heat up like a microwave. Once he starts feeling himself, he can go on some really impressive scoring streaks. At the next level, he’ll need some added strength to hold his line on drives and defend bigger wings. The skill, athleticism and quickness are certainly there, but extra pounds would go a very long way for Wilkins. I’ll be curious to see if he plays a role on Furman next year and if so, whether that be a scoring or shooting role.

Wilkins was virtually the only Brooks player that could get anything going offensively against Belmont Hill. Without much creation or shooting help, he carried a bafflingly high load but still managed to put up some decent numbers. He has deep range and is an athletic, lanky finisher at the rim. He takes some questionable shots at times, but I have to imagine that’s more situation-based than anything, because he shows some really nice flashes of vision and passing ability that should shine at Furman next year. It’ll be interesting to see how much differently he plays in another environment.

Wilkins started off the game slowly, but boy did he turn it around in the second half. He showed a remarkable ability to score from all three levels; he can shoot it from three (he took a few VERY deep ones), he can get to his spots in the mid range, and he can use his size, length and athleticism to finish at the rim. He’s an incredibly smooth ball handler who has a certain silkiness to his creation game. Change of speed, misdirections – he has it all. He’ll be an interesting piece at Furman next year, and some added weight would do him quite well.

Wilkins is a methodical playmaker who has a real knack to either score or distribute. He has great positional size and very creative when he has the ball in his hands. He lets the game come to him. He was one of the most recruited prospects in the northeast and had offers from 2 dozen programs before committing to Furman.

Wilkins finalized his college plans after a terrific summer on the travel circuit and will head to Furman University. After earning 25+ offers this summer, Wilkins now settles in and will look to lead Brooks on a deep run this winter. A big, playmaking guard, Wilkins never seems to play outside of himself and doesn’t get sped up. He’s comfortable operating as an initiator with the ball in his hands and his size on the perimeter allows him to see over the defense and make passes that some guards can’t. He’s a terrific free throw shooter and has become a knock-down shooter from behind the arc. Defensively, his comination of size and length allows him to guard multiple positions and he’s proven to be a high IQ defender that generates a good number of steals and deflections throughout a game. Furman lands one of New England’s biggest stock riser in Wilkins, a prospect that should only continue to get better at the next level and has the look of an immediate impact recruit in the SoCon.

Wilkins is as smooth with the ball as they come. He’s got a great feel for how to use crafty footwork in the lane and he understands how to attack defenders at a high level. The way he uses his body and can ball fake his way to the rim is not something you find with most athletically-gifted 6-foot-5 guards. Even though he can wow you with great elevation, he often opts for the finesse, below-the-rim finish, which is a testament to his mind and basketball IQ. Wilkins also has a great handle and shooting ability – a true all-around offensive game. He only holds offers from mid-majors right now, but I would not be surprised if that changes this year.

Wilkins is one of the most intriguing prospects at the NEPSAC showcase. At 6-foot-5 with long arms, he’s a special athlete with an incredibly smooth scoring game. He doesn’t have much of an offensive weakness and is able to score at all three-levels with great control and touch. Definite D1 player and could imagine some high-major programs being very interested in Wilkins.

Rise: +10
Wilkins has shined this spring as a primary ball-handler for the Middlesex Magic. A big guard with great positional size and length, Wilkins is in complete control when he has the ball in his hands. He doesn’t get sped up and makes good decisions as a passer. His size allows him to see over the defense, while his IQ allows him to see plays before they develop. Defensively, he’s does a great job of keeping the ball in front of him and creates chaos in passing lanes with his length. He’s done a lot to impact winning this spring and that has led to a handful of Division I offers rolling in over the past few weeks.
