Expert Analysis
Robbie Hodin | Prep Hoops Scout
Richards was one of the freakiest athletes in the entire gym on Friday. One one fast break, the 5-foot-11 guard easily got up for a one-handed, rim-rocking dunk that got the entire gym out of their seats. He has springs in his legs but also phenomenal quickness, so he’s a highlight waiting to happen. The rising freshman hits shots from three and the mid-range, too, and can get hot in a moment’s notice. Richard will probably have a big-time season for Brooks and has a chance to be one of the more productive 2030’s in the NEPSAC.

Richard, a guard out of the Brooks School in Massachusetts, profiles as one of the early contenders for top combo guard in this class. The 5’11” guard moves gracefully in the open floor, knows how to play off of two feet in the paint, and does a nice job of finishing with athleticism around the rim. He’s a tough, on-ball defender, knocks down threes in catch and shoot situations, and has the ability to direct an offense with the ball in his hands. He gained valuable experience at the varsity level last winter at Tewksbury Memorial.

Richard is a phenomenal athlete with great quick-burst ball-handling ability and really good elevation at the rim. The rising freshman is only 6-foot tall, but he has the ability to take contact in the air quite effectively and gets tons of height on his jump shot, which makes him difficult to contest especially as a smaller defender. Richard also has solid passing vision and never gets tired, so he’s constantly attacking downhill in transition and is hard to stay in front of. He should be one of Brooks’ key players this season and will get A LOT better from getting reps against NEPSAC competition.

Richard, a guard out of Tewksbury Memorial High School in Massachusetts, is the #4 ranked combo guard and checks in at #24 overall. Richard has quickly made his mark at Tewksbury, impressing as one of the top underclassmen in the MIAA. He’s a tough on-ball defender that does a nice job of reading plays before they develop, leading to plenty of steals and transition layups. He’s impressed with his ability to snag rebounds from the guard spot, both offensively and defensively, and does a nice job of pushing the pace in transition off of his defensive rebounds. In the half-court, he’s capable of making catch and shoot threes, but also does a good job of getting downhill and playing through contact at the rim.
