To take advantage of this, we have started to add these videos to players in Oregon in the Class of 2023 at all different levels. Here’s a look at the top point guard in the class as well as a couple of sets of twins that have already generated buzz at the varsity level.
Prospect: Jackson Shelstad Jackson Shelstad 6'0" | PG West Linn | 2023 State #55 Nation OR
HS: West Linn
Height/Position: 5-11 – Point Guard
PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2023 Ranking: #2

Analysis: Shelstad came into high school with much fanfare and he certainly lived up to billing his freshman season. One skill of his that translated right away was the deep range on his shot – Shelstad can catch and shoot but will also create off the dribble or even pull up in transition for NBA-range threes. He’s not just a bomber either as he’s capable of creating off of the dribble and finishing with either hand around the hoop. While Shelstad is more advanced as a scorer right now, he does look to find open teammates outside or cutting to the hoop for easy buckets. Defensively, he led 6A in steals by utilizing quick hands and anticipating the passing lanes. Listed as 5-foot-11 as a freshman, he’s likely not finished growing and his shoulders will easily hold more weight/muscle as well. A definite Division I recruit as he’s already picked up several D-I offers.
Prospect: Malik Brown Malik Brown 6'0" | PG Tigard | 2023 State OR
HS: Tigard
Height/Postition: 5-11 – Point Guard

Analysis: Malik Brown Malik Brown 6'0" | PG Tigard | 2023 State OR stepped right into the Tigard program as the team’s starting point guard. Extremely fast, he has a quick first step and is capable of taking it all the way to the hole and either scoring kicking it out to open shooters on the perimeter. While he definitely appears to be more interested in taking it to the basket or stopping on a dime for a mid-range shot, Brown can knock down some open jumpers as evidenced in the film. On the defensive end he works hard and he may be one of the best shot-blockers in the backcourt in the entire state as he is very good at following his man off the dribble, anticipating when he’s going to shoot it, and then getting his hand on the ball.
Prospect: Moroni Seely-Roberts Moroni Seely-Roberts 6'6" | SF Lincoln | 2023 State OR
HS: Yamhill-Carlton
Height/Position: 6-5 – Forward
PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2023 Ranking: #9

Analysis: At 6-foot-5, 185-pounds and a body that’s as physically mature as most high school seniors – especially at the 3A level – Roberts mostly played in the post his freshman year at Yamhill-Carlton. In the video you can see he has two main moves that are largely unstoppable, a quick half-hook or a move to his left to go up and under the defender for the hoop. But the truth is Roberts is a more versatile player who has the capability to morph into a large wing. Usually from up top, he can create off the dribble in either direction and finish with either hand around the basket. His most comfortable three-point shot appears to be at the top of the key. How Roberts develops as a player in the next three years will certainly be something to watch.
Prospect: Kalim Brown Kalim Brown 6'0" | CG Tigard | 2023 State OR
HS: Tigard
Height/Position: 5-11 – Combo Guard
PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2023 Ranking: #10

Analysis: Kalim Brown Kalim Brown 6'0" | CG Tigard | 2023 State OR had a bit of a different role as he came off the bench for Tigard and largely made his impact on the defensive end. Like his brother, he plays with a high motor and uses his quick hands to come up with steals and also has the ability to anticipate opponent’s moves and block their shot attempts off the dribble. He’s very fast in the open court, can finish with either hand around the basket, and may actually be the better outside shooter of the two Brown boys. A hustle guy, he’ll scramble for offensive rebounds and is especially adept at stepping in and taking charges for offensive foul calls.
Prospect: Malachi Seely-Roberts Malachi Seely-Roberts 6'8" | SF Lincoln | 2023 State OR
HS: Yamhill-Carlton
Height/Position: 6-6 – Forward
PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2023 Ranking: #12

Analysis: While taller than his twin brother at 6-foot-6, Roberts is a much different player on the offensive end. He appears to be much more comfortable outside of the three-point arc and he isn’t afraid to launch – and make – bombs well beyond the high school three-point line. Roberts isn’t just a mad bomber either as he’s able to use his height to see over opponents and make passes to players closer to the basket for easier scores. And where his length also comes into play is on the defensive end as he uses his long arms to block shots and defend the lane. From the video it appears that Roberts is a willing passer and as he adds strength to his frame, he should make more of an impact on drives inside.
