Continue ReadingWorld Hoops Elite is a program on the rise in southeastern Wisconsin, and this year’s 17u team may be their most talented to date. With a team consisting mostly of players from the Racine/Kenosha area, they offer a blend of skill, athleticism, and length that will make them a competitive program if given the opportunity to play this summer. Prep Hoops Wisconsin takes a look at their talented roster in our 17U Preview.
Joseph Atilano (6’8 2021 F, Kenosha Christian Life)- A transfer from Zion-Benton in Illinois, Joseph Atilano brings size and shooting touch to the floor. He’s been rapidly improving over the past year evident by a smooth shot from mid-range, and strong efforts on the glass.
Quentin Bolton Quentin Bolton 6'5" | SF Shoreland Lutheran | 2021 State WI (6’6 2021 W, Shoreland Lutheran)- One of the top wing prospects in the state, Bolton has a strong frame and a smooth pull-up jumper that he hits from three or mid-range. His ability to score with limited dribbles makes him a dangerous player on the wing. Quentin is also a physical presence on the glass who can pull in rebounds with authority. Bolton averaged 16.2 points and 10.6 rebounds per game as a junior, and is generating some D1 interest.
Marcell Drone (6’7 2021 F, Sheboygan South)- Marcell has been rapidly improving as a physically imposing forward, and it showed as he doubled his scoring output to 15.2 ppg as a junior while pulling in 11 rpg. Marcell has a strong frame but is agile enough to run the floor and has the ability to attack from the wing off the dribble. He’s shown signs of improved footwork allowing him to score at a high percentage when isolated on the block, and his strength is simply too much to handle for most players at the high school level.
Tre Gordon (6’2 2021 G, Kenosha Bradford)- Tre missed a lot of time with an injury during the winter, but managed to average 6.1 ppg playing alongside a talented trio of seniors. Though that average isn’t eye catching, Tre is a player who can take over a game in a hurry, evident by a season high of 21. He can catch fire from beyond the arc, and has some explosive ability going up to finish at the rim. Add in long arms and effort on defense, and he’s an intriguing guard to watch.
Kaleb Naylor (6’2 2020 G, Zion-Benton)- A 2020 guard out of Illinois, Kaleb Naylor was a double digit scorer for Zion-Benton High School. He’s a crafty finisher around the rim who excels at attacking off the dribble. Kaleb utilizes a deadly shot-fake and a creative handle to blow by defenders.
Vinko Polovic (6’6 2021 F, Franklin)- Vinko Polovic is an emerging stretch-four out of Franklin with a lengthy 6’6-6’7 frame. He didn’t receive big minutes as a junior, but showed promise as an outside shooting threat, knocking down 10 of his 21 attempts from beyond the arc. He’ll add length, defensive versatility, and shooting touch to the lineup.
Will Robinson (6’3 2020 W, Sheboygan North)- A well rounded wing with some length, athleticism, and defensive effort, Will is the type of player who will take on any role given to him. He averaged 6.1 ppg with a season high of 18 for Sheboygan North this past winter.
Ezra Stargell Ezra Stargell 6'1" | PG Kenosha Indian Trail | 2021 State WI (5’11 2021 G, Kenosha Indian Trails)- Pound-for-pound one of the most talented guards in Wisconsin, Ezra is a shifty ball handler with deep range and high level passing vision. His quickness and creativity handling the ball allow him to pick out any spot on the floor and get there, while his vision allows him to pick out passes that most guards in the state wouldn’t think about making. Ezra averaged 16.2 ppg and 7.5 apg as a junior.
Jermaine Tomlin (6’6 2020 F, Racine St. Catherine’s)- Jermaine went the prep school route for his senior season before returning back to Racine towards the end of the year. He has the length and athleticism to project as a small forward, but has the competitive edge to defend as a power forward. Jermaine hits open threes consistently and is able to take his man off the dribble and power through contact to finish around the rim.
Braden Trunkel (6′ 2021 G, Neillsville)- An absolute sharpshooter, Braden made 45% of his 173 attempts from beyond the arc as a junior, and has the ability to stretch the floor for the talented forward prospects on this World Hoops Elite team. Trunkel can hit off the catch or dribble with range well beyond the arc, and is a hard working defender with quickness to jump passing lanes.
