Continue ReadingThis weekend Location415.com and The Bay Area Wildcats AAU Program presented the 11th Annual MLK Jr. “I Have A Dream “ Classic held at Merritt College in Oakland, Ca featuring some of the darkhorse schools in the Bay Area public and private. From Oakland Tech High School to University(San Francisco) many teams were ready for these non-conference matchups during league play. Abraham Lincoln of San Francisco coming into the weekend with a record of (14-3) started the day off cruising to a win over Fremont(Oakland) who coming into the game sporting a (0-16) record and only suiting up 6 players though losing by more than 40 points the team showed fight the whole 4 quarters. The breathtaking games of the day came from the afternoon. Skyline(Oakland) went up against a usual peninsula powerhouse of Santa Cruz High School. This game came down to a nail biter with Skyline coming out on top 48-46 in the last seconds moving their record to (12-9) on the year. One of the most exciting games came from Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep(San Francisco) against the hosting school Oakland High School Wildcats. The game was neck and neck throughout all three quarters until the Fighting Irish bursted for a 28 point 4th quarter to seal the game for the Wildcats.
Standout Players Of The Day
- Justin Aquino – Abraham Lincoln(San Francisco) – Guard – 2023
One of three Aquino brothers on that will be making a splash for the next 4 years in high school basketball. Pest on defense , needs structure to madness. Offensively Laid back , 3 point corner Shooter , off guard ball handler , push the pace on fast break looking for his teammates to dish.
- AJ Gilbert – Albany – Point Guard – 2020
Senior and plays like it. Poised and patient on offense , runs through the sets looking for teammates before his own shot. Don’t leave any space on defense because he can catch fire around the arc or drive for a dish or finish . High basketball IQ. Needs more defense and vocal leadership on defense to make bigger impact.
- Miles Jones – Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep- Guard – 2020
3 Point sniper. High percentage on the wing or in the corner will be a for sure knockdown. Plays both point guard and shooting guard. Ball handling skill questionable. Finds a spot on the fast break and willing to drive and take contact. Small in weight will need pounds to solidify a spot on a college roster next year.
