The 2022 6’6″, 190-pounder was a key asset in Orlando Christian Prep’s attempt at a third consecutive Class 3A state title this past March. Allen-Lubin had nine points, eight rebounds and two blocks in the 50-48 state championship loss to Tallahassee St. John Paul II. OCP played without a senior a season ago, but now have a plethora of rising talents and versatile pieces to work with in the revamped Class 2A.
Allen-Lubin broke down his freshman campaign and looked toward this upcoming season.
“My freshmen year, I matured mostly on rebounding, scoring, and communication,” he told Prep Hoops. “This year, I’m looking forward to getting my teammates involved, being a team player because I’m not too big on being a scorer, anybody could put the ball in the hoop, but when you start talking, communicating and getting them involved on both sides of the court, it’ll be tough to stop us.”
This summer proved to be an instrumental one for him as he played with Team Parsons CP25.
“I chose to play with them before my high school season ended and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made so far. They taught me so much on how to be a student of the game,” Allen-Lubin said. “I enjoyed playing in their program. I love the way their program is run, very skilled players I’ve seen playing in the program and I can’t wait to play with them next year.”
He currently has five Division I offers which include USF, UF, Iowa State and just earned both St. John’s and Alabama last week.
Allen-Lubin says college coaches tell him they love the way he plays on defense, how he creates defensively, rebounds on both sides of the court, finishes strong and his catch and shoot ability.
In terms of his biggest strengths, he alluded to his slashing, rebounding, defense, overall scoring and ability to create off the dribble.
Allen-Lubin says he is currently working on getting his handle tighter and reading defenses better.
“Anybody could be a scorer, dunker, rebounder, but what all players can’t do is be a floor general and be a leader on offense and defense. I’m taking the time to communicate with the new players that came to OCP.,” he said. “The little mistakes, especially in front of college coaches, it’s okay to try something new, but always play to your strengths and work on what you are trying to master by yourself.”
Returning to Orlando Christian Prep this season is 2020 guard Eric Butler, 2022 guard AJ Brown, 2020 guard Jaylen Williams, 2022 forward Camden Easley, 2020 guard Jonthy Candelario and 2020 guard Terrance Reese. 2021 guard Omar Figueroa and 2022 forward Jayden Hastings (offers from St. John’s and USF in the last two weeks) join the Warriors to add more speed and versatility.
With Allen-Lubin growing up quickly with his reliable jumper, unselfishness and keen ability to attack the basket for buckets and boards, Orlando Christian Prep surely looks like a state contender once again. Ranked No. 13 overall in the 2022 Prep Hoops Florida rankings, Allen-Lubin has endless upside and he is certainly going to thrive this season as a sophomore as a core leader.
