Here were the standouts from the 2022 class:
Garrison Phelps SG 6’4 St. Mary’s
-One of the top performers of the event overall for the sophs. He was consistent each game scoring in transition, where he always excels, shooting from deep plus defending everyone. This is his best skill currently. He uses his massive wingspan, speed and instincts to cover players in space plus is super strong to defend the post players. He can pull-up off the dribble and is a terror in the open court.
Micah Pierce PF 6’6 Desert Vista
-A long defensive minded forward is starting to find his offensive game. He rebounds and blocks anything near him plus is a fluid athlete in space. He can rip through plus is becoming better at shooting the 3.
DeOtis Nunn Jr CG 5’11 South Mountain
-One of the best mid-range shooters at the camp and possibly in the entire soph class. You may even see him pull off the one-leg Dirk fadeaway. He has a tight handle and creates separation well with his crossover. He isn’t the vertical threat but his mind and skill are at a high level.
Carson Ledbetter PF 6’6 Casteel
-One of the newcomers from the class looked good. He has good size for his grade and good strength. He can score it inside effectively but is mostly an under the rim type. What intrigued me was his ability to shoot it from deep and runs the floor well. He has a clean stroke and it looks good.
Quin Thorne PG 5’10 Corona del Sol
-Another newcomer is highly skilled, poised and plays the game with a high IQ. He can really shoot it from the 3pt line and in. His passing ability separates him from many. He can make pinpoint passes in traffic. Once he gets stronger, his game will take off even more.
Brandon Lee CG 6’0 Corona del Sol
-A cerebral scoring guard can shoot it from mid to the 3pt line. He likes the middle game and the lefty can slither into the lane and score it. He also can survey the scene and make plays for others with his shifty handle. He is a smart passer, skilled and plays hard.
