With quite a few players deciding to play against older competition, it made for some pretty interesting matchups with some younger players proving themselves as potential prospects.
Sandhills Machine 2024 Jaylen Sturdivant: A prospect that truly has a chance to be special, he played up an age group in this tournament and was still one of the top performers. We already knew that he had the ability to score the ball but he displayed some unselfishness and the ability to get others involved as well which is something that you love to see from a player his age.
Hoop Phi Hoop 2020 Shemar Pinder: The leadership he brought for this team was impressive, regardless of what was going on he stayed vocal and was a coach on the floor. He does a nice job of handling defensive pressure without turning the ball over too often, solid overall performance.
Sandhills Machine 2024 Salah Sutton: You don’t have to watch him for a very long time to see that he has a natural feel for the game, his IQ is advanced and he didn’t seem to force too many plays. One of the better attributes that was on display for him in this tourney was his passing, he saw plays before they happened and made some very impressive passes to teammates for buckets.
Sandhills Machine 2023 Daveon Leggett: He takes on more of a facilitator type role when he’s on the floor. Looking to force the defense to collapse and making the correct pass to the open teammate is something that we saw him do pretty frequently.
Sandhills Machine 2023 Zaveon Leggett: Provided a nice amount of offense for his team with the starting unit as he brings a scorers type mindset whenever he steps on the court. He is constantly attacking the basket and seems to excel when he gets the opportunity to push the ball out into transition.
Team Warchiefs 2023 Damien Gary: You can tell that he puts in a nice amount of time on his game as well as having a natural feel on the court, as he made some impressive reads from the PG spot. His ball handling skills are pretty impressive as well as his vision on the court, which led to him converting some nice passes for plenty of assist.
