Last season at Westview, the rising junior largely focused on defense and rebounding but this spring and summer he’s showing off some offensive skill. The athletic 6-foot-4, 175-pound forward/wing is hopeful that his development will lead to some college recruitment in the future.
Currently playing with Westview in June summer ball, Grable spent the spring running with Hoop Salem 16U. “It’s my first AAU season and it’s been going pretty good,” Grable said. “We’ve done pretty well and we just have to finish. I’ve been working on getting to the basket more and my shooting. Last year I was more passive and this year I’m trying to work on getting to the basket.”
Recently with Westview at the NW Summer Invitational, Grable showed off some of his ability to get to the basket. On one play from the wing, he found an open hole in the defense and exploited it for a drive and one-handed slam. Later in the game, he got around his defender on the baseline and rose abouve the rim and threw down a two-handed flush.
Grable’s athleticism is evident and as his skills and feel for the game catch up, he’ll be awfully tough to handle. College recruitment should pick up as well. Grable did play football but now he’s focused on basketball and keeping things wide open when it comes to the next level. “I’m just trying to find the best fit for me,” Grable said.
As he plays out June with Westview, Grable will rejoin Hoop Salem 16U – which recently added some players that will give them both size and depth. “If we can finish and play together I think we can be one of the best 16U teams in the state,” Grable said.
