The Broward County native helped lead Westminster Academy to back-to-back FHSAA Class 4A state championships his freshman and sophomore seasons.
This past week, the four-star shooting guard — now a junior at Huntington Prep in West Virginia — went to Nike EYBL in Atlanta and excelled in front of college coaches at the first live period.
The 6-foot-6 Nightrydas Elite guard scored 17 points and pulled down 6 rebounds in an 87-73 victory over Team CP3 (N.C.).
Blackwell also had 17 points and 2 steals in a win over UPlay Canada. He got to the free-throw line 10 times in the 100-55 drubbing. Blackwell’s lowest output at Nike EYBL was 9 points.
“I like what Dudley brought to the table,” Nightrydas coach Edward “Boobie” Francis said.
College coaches from across the country also liked what they saw. In a matter of days, Blackwell has picked up scholarship offers from Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Providence, St. Louis and the most recent Wednesday from Marquette.
Iowa State, Florida and Florida State were among schools who had already been on the Huntington Prep standout.
Blackwell is a load to handle on the offensive end. He is just as capable of hitting from outside as posting you up and blowing by for a layup. He plays above the rim and is a rim protector on the defensive end.
Blackwell attended Westminster Academy in Fort Lauderdale for two years before transferring to Somerset Pines and then moving on to Huntington Prep. He was ranked among the top five juniors in the state of Florida.
He said the move to a prep school has helped him grow both mentally and physically. Huntington Prep went 21-4 in 2018-19.
“First time being away from home … I get homesick at times, but you know it’s for the best cause,” Blackwell said. “It’s helping me mature a lot.
“I like it so far. We’re getting better every day [as a team]. We’re playing at a high level with guys. We just compete every day in practice so each and every one of us is getting better every time we step on the court. A good situation.”
Blackwell said he has not set up any college visits as of yet.
