He averaged 10.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game as a junior. The rising senior had this to say about the Bulldogs’ 27-5 season a year ago that ended in the Class 5A state semifinal.
“We had a great season. I had to step up and play a leadership role with other guys looking up to me. I was glad to take this leadership position. Watching the older kids in the past years helped me better my game by playing as a team. For this coming up season we lost a couple players but I have faith in our returners to all step up and fill the roles that are needed.”
How would Quiles describe his own game?
“I see myself as a great team player and I try to help other players grow. I want to grow as a scoring threat. I’ve really been working on my pull-up off the dribble.”
He plays AAU ball for coach Rob Walker and the Tampa Titans.
“I’m playing point guard for them so I’m getting more used to handling the ball. Our offense is being run through me and I’m loving the experience. Along with playing with my AAU team, I am constantly in the gym putting up shots, trying to better myself every chance I get.
No offers yet for Quiles, but he has drawn interest from Southeastern, a school he says really likes the way he plays the game. Expect the interest to come this season as he puts his improvements on display. At the very least, Division-II and Division-III programs are going to give him a shot.
