The Buffalo led by five at the half but pulled away quickly behind 2019 UF signee Tre Mann ultimately winning the Class 5A-District 5 meeting 80-67.
Here is a look at the most intriguing prospects from the district matchup.
Tre Mann (The Villages)
Egging on Mann is not a wise idea. However, that is exactly what the Trinity Catholic crowd did taunting the UF signee early on. With 14 points at the half, Mann came out aggressive and shooting from deep with ease to finish with a game-high 31 points. He had seven 3’s in the game, hitting back to back triples in the third quarter to put his side up 49-36. Mann connected on at least one 3-pointer in each quarter.
Jarveil Gainey (Trinity Catholic)
Although Jarveil Gainey was held to seven points in the second half, it was a memorable outing for the 2021 Trinity Catholic guard. The sophomore athlete had a game-best 21 points in the first half which included some tough mid-range jumpers and possessions where he created something out of nothing. A 28-point night is a good one for Gainey, a mature underclassman who is on his way up.
Brandon Farmer (The Villages)
It was quiet first half due to foul trouble for 2019 forward Brandon Farmer. In the fourth quarter, he was able to turn it on with his rebounding and willingness to get inside. Farmer recorded 20 points, pacing the floor well next to Mann and proving his fit with The Villages is one that will pay huge dividends.
Montez Leath (Trinity Catholic)
No matter where he was on the court, 2019 Trinity Catholic guard Montez Leath continued to work and take chances. He scored 18 points in this one and over the final two quarters was the best thing going offensively. He was diving for loose balls and putting his body on the line with attacks to the rim.
Terry Ivery (The Villages)
The passion and effort that 2019 The Villages guard Terry Ivery plays with is a pleasure to watch. You always know you’ll get 100 percent from the senior. He’s rarely tired and it showed with his 16-point night. Ivery was feeding off Mann’s energy in the first half and kept his offense going all game long.
