“It’s natural. I’ve always been like that,” said Anderson of his playmaking ability. “I always look out for my teammates. When I rip through and attack the basket, I try to either finish or kick it out to one of my guys.”
Anderson says he’s spent a lot of time working on rip through moves because he says most defenders can’t stay in front, and perfecting his rip through will ultimately make him that much harder to defend. It wasn’t until eighth grade that Anderson’s uncle moved him up to play AAU. The year before, he broke his elbow, and had to sit out that year to rehab. One of Anderson’s arms is still slightly shorter than the other, but that hasn’t hindered him from being an exceptional rebounder, shot blocker, and an improving shooter.
“Most people don’t think I can shoot,” Anderson stated. “So that’s what I’ve been working on.”
Riverdale’s team is loaded with guards, wings, and undersized bigs. Anderson understands the importance of rebounding, so he has made it a point to contribute consistently in that category. Having just turned 17 in September, and with a 3.6 GPA, Anderson’s chance to succeed at the next level is higher than most.
“Right now, I’m being recruited hardest by Washington Adventist,” he said. “I’m trying to talk to Clark Atlanta and Bowie State.”
The 6-foot-2 wing, who played AAU with the First Baptist Church of Glenarden, says he’ll probably decide where he will go to school by February. He hopes to bring his defense, intensity, and ability to communicate among other attributes. What are his goals?
“To go somewhere I can play, and make my name known.”
