Casteel vs Ironwood: Takeaways
Last night’s game between Casteel and Ironwood looked like it would be a very competitive game, on paper at least. Maxpreps had Casteel ranked 3rd in 5A, while Ironwood was ranked 5th. However, the game was anything but close. Here are some takeaways from Casteel vs. Ironwood.
Dominic Gonzalez is one of the best scorers in 5A
Dominic Gonzalez showed up big time last night. He put on a great scoring display and racked up 29 points. He demonstrated his ability to score the ball from everywhere on the court. He was able to get to the basket at will, knock down the mid-range, and hit some big time three’s. I expect performances like this on a nightly basis from Gonzalez, he is one of the best pure scorers in 5A.
A Hard Fought Effort
While Casteel eventually lost by 33, I have to give it up to them for battling until the buzzer sounded. Those are tough games to play in and you can really see what your team is made of in those situations. The fact that their players kept fighting when down big shows a lot about their character and the coach they play for. Much respect for those boys at Casteel.
JJ White Gets Hot from Deep
JJ White is usually known for playing great defense and for his athleticism, not usually being highly praised for his shooting ability. However, JJ White got hot from deep last night. He managed to knock down 6 three’s, he was absolutely unreal. If he manages to keep this shooting display up all season long, he will have great individual success and provide a lot of success for his team.
Stat Leaders:
Dominic Gonzalez: 29 points
JJ White: 20 points
Cassius Carmichael: 16 points
86-53 Ironwood.
