Recruiting Update: Micah Garrett (2020 West Linn HS)
It was a good summer for Micah Garrett. The bouncy 6-foot-3, 170-pound guard from West Linn High School won a tournament title with his AAU teammates and he also picked up his first scholarship offer. A number of other schools have been consistently in touch with Garrett ever since, and last month he made his first campus visit.
In October, Garrett went on a trip to make an unofficial visit to Colorado State. “It was my first visit so it was good getting a feel for how it was going to be like it’s going to be on upcoming visits,” Garrett said. “I got to experience what the D-I level is like and I had a fun time down there.”
On campus, he got a chance to take a tour of campus and get a good look at the team. “They’re athletic, they can shoot, and the conference they’re in – they play against good teams,” Garrett said. “It was really cold down there, but it was nice. The campus is big and they have all you need out there – academics, teachers, nutritionists, weight training – they have all that.”
Fort Collins wasn’t the only place in Colorado Garrett visited. He also dropped by Greeley to drop in at Northern Colorado as well. “I didn’t get to take a tour around campus but I got to watch their whole practice.,” Garrett said. “They were competitive, they were yelling, and their coaches were on them. They were really intense.”
Neither Colorado State or Northern Colorado have offered a scholarship yet, but they have been consistently in touch with Garrett, as has a whole host of other schools including Pepperdine, Oregon State, Washington State, Eastern Washington, Northern Arizona, Portland State, UC Riverside, and Seattle University. Garrett continues to keep all of his options open as he enters his junior year.
“I’m feeling good, just getting ready for the basketball season,” Garrett said. “I think we’re going to have a good year this year. Even though we’re not that big, our guards – we’re stacked. I’m trying to make it to Chiles and I think we can do it.”
Garrett currently ranks as the #1 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
