Prospect Spotlight: Cameron Andre (2021 Benson HS)
He’s a bit of a newcomer to the game having only been playing since the eighth grade. But with his length, athleticism, and potential, Cameron Andre is commanding some attention. The long 6-foot-6, 175-pound sophomore is looking forward to continued growth with his game this season at Benson High School as he is coming off a summer of hard work and development from playing in camps and with AAU basketball.
This past spring and summer, Andre ran with Nike Team Northwest’s 15U squad and had a good time doing so. “It was good – we had a couple of rough patches where I wasn’t playing enough but in the end it was good,” Andre said. “I feel like I did pretty well. I’ve been working on my ball-handling and my shooting mostly so I can work out of the post and become a perimeter player. I’ve been in the gym with my trainer and I’ve been playing a lot of one-on-one so I can a lot better with the moves I can do on people.”
In addition to playing AAU basketball, Andre also got a chance to attend some camps including West Coast Elite’s camp this fall and Oregon State’s camp in the summer. “In the middle of the camp I got a stress fracture in my shin so I wasn’t able to finish it out,” Andre said. “But it was fun until that.”
Being a relative newcomer to the game, Andre isn’t focused too much about college ball but he has thought about it a little. “Really of course everyone is looking for a D-I school,” Andre said. “But I’m looking for any school that’s interested in me really.”
Naturally college will come when the time is right. Andre has three more years of high school left and he’s looking forward to what’s ahead in 2018-19. “I love it here – it’s my home and I’m here to stay,” Andre said. “We’re going to be lethal if we work together as a team and we work together.”
Andre currently ranks as the #22 player in the PrepHoops Class of 2021 rankings.
