Program Awards: Starz United
With the 2018 AAU season in the rear view mirror, we are going to dive into programs across the state looking at their teams in a variety of categories in our Program Awards! Today we examine Starz United!
Program MVP
Noah Back, Perry County Central
Often the leading scorer and never afraid to take the big shots, Back had a strong 17u season playing for Starz and continues to be one of the more prolific three point shooters in the state. Noah has an outside shot to end his high school career with the most 3 pointers made in state history and will look to lead Perry County Central back to the state tournament.
Top 2019 Prospect
Deonte Edmonds, Tates Creek
Long and athletic, Deonte Edmonds is the definition of a sleeper prospect. Edmonds doesn’t get the notoriety he probably should because Tates Creek has struggled so much in recent years but he could see an uptick in his recruiting this year on a Tates team that has all the weapons to score a lot of points and make some noise in the 11th region.
Top 2020/2021 Prospect
Zayden Ferguson, Frederick Douglass
United didn’t have a 16u team this year and half of their 15u roster was actually 2022 kids playing up a level. Ferguson will look to step into a role at Douglass after two guards and three total upperclassmen transferred before the start of school this year.
Sleeper
Cole Thompson, Collegiate
Cole started most of the season for Collegiate as a freshman point guard and should step right back into the role this season for a Titans team looking to duplicate or even improve upon their record setting success from a year ago. With another year under his belt, look for Cole to make strides both as a player and statistically in his sophomore season.
Biggest Stock Riser
Austin “Rico” Cole-Carr, Ballard
Cole-Carr is a 2022 prospect but he has already got his name out there as a young player who could make an impact in his freshman campaign at Ballard. Rico is small at 5’8 but he knows how to score the ball and is certainly a name to watch out for in the 7th region this year.
