Prospect Spotlight: Tyler Reed (2020)
Tamalpais junior Tyler Reed is a two-sport standout who could see his stock on the hardwood boost considerably over the next year.
A 6-foot-1 point guard, Reed is a true floor general who takes great pride in setting up his teammates for success.
He’ll get the chance to showcase his playmaking abilities this winter with the Red-Tailed Hawks. And his improved defense, too.
“My most vital skill is being able to get my teammates involved, I’m all about passing the ball. I feel like I have good court-vision and I’m able to find my teammates for easy buckets,” said Reed.
“And I feel like I’ve improved a lot on my defense. I’ve been really working on my footwork, I just love that side of the game and I just love stopping the other team’s best player. I take great pride in that.”
Reed did not play grassroots ball this past spring and summer, instead he was in the weight-room and the gym working out on his own. He working hard to make sure his body is ready for the varsity level.
“Right now, I’m working on getting my body right for the season and putting on some muscle so I’ll be ready for the varsity game, he said.
Last season, Reed played with the junior varsity, his team won the league championship. He was called up to varsity for the playoffs.
“It was a huge experience for me because I was able to learn the sets and just gain chemistry with my teammates for this upcoming year,” he said.
Also a standout on the diamond, Reed says he loves both sports, but it’s basketball that gives him that extra adrenaline rush,
“If I had to choose one, I would probably choose basketball, I really love the game and it’s something that I take a lot of pride in. It’s different on the basketball court, I get a feeling that I do that I don’t get as much on the baseball field. I just feel at home on the basketball court,” said Reed.
And his ultimate goal? Play college hoops.
“Personally, I hope to put my name on the map more, get my name out there and start getting to more showcases,” said Reed. “And to up my recruitment status and start to get recruited my multiple schools.”
