New Faces to Watch (Part 2)
Over this summer, I’ve seen a plethora of new prospects. Whether it came in Orlando, Gainesville, DeLand, Cancun, Atlanta or Tampa, there were guys that impressed me that I hadn’t seen before.
Here is a look at the second part of “the new faces to watch. “
ICYMI: Part 1
Elrod Taylor (Cardinal Gibbons/Team Breakdown)
I really liked the energy and burst 2020 Cardinal Gibbons guard Elrod Taylor played with for Team Breakdown 16U in Atlanta. He runs the floor well at his 6’1″ frame and isn’t afraid to mix it up inside offensively. Taylor is a 2020 prospect to watch.
Jaz Farrell (DME/Showtime Hoops)
After spending his senior year at Pembroke Pines, Jaz Farrell will be suiting up for DME post-grad this fall. Playing on the 17U Showtime Hoops squad, the 6’1″ guard was doing just a bit of everything alongside Diante Smith for his team. Farrell was hitting 3’s, driving inside and even slammed home a dunk with one second left where he got up a bit.
Jonathan Renois (Somerset Academy/Team Knight)
A sound and reliable floor setter, 2021 guard Jonathan Renois really held his during the AAU Super Showcasse The 5’11” Somerset Academy athlete is a quick-witted point man who likes to mix it up as an attacker and get his teammates involved often.
Jeremiah Bannister (First Academy/Team MOAM)
A noticeably muscular forward, Jeremiah Bannister has a chance to develop. The 6’5″ 2021 First Academy forward is a battler on the boards and a player who does all the dirty work inside for his team. Bannister found good areas near the cup often.
Frank Williams (Jefferson/Henson Select)
On a very young but athletic Henson Select team, Frank Williams proved to be a solid contributor. The 6’1” 2021 Jefferson forward finishes well at the rim off inside feeds and pushes it often in transition. He was the to-go guy when his teammates looked up the court at the Best of The South. Williams will have a key role for the Dragons this fall.
Jonathan Aybar (Central Pointe Christian/Team Florida 17U)
Playing up to his competition, 2020 Central Pointe Christian forward Jonathan Aybar was scoring off the dribble, slashing and making smart passes at the AAU Super Showcase. He is long and needs to continue to attack instead of settling for jump shots. Although his mid-range jumper is nice.
