WCE Elite 100 Camp: Top Future Stars Performers
Claremont, Ca. — The West Coast Elite “Elite 100” camp name was a bit misleading. Ryan Silver, the king of getting basketball bodies through the door, had upwards of 500 players participating in the camp two-and-a-half day camp.
We were in attendance Saturday morning and afternoon and all day Sunday for the all-star games. Here are the top performers from the “Future Stars” aka class of 2022 game:
Cade Bennett, Campolindo
Bennett plays exactly how you’d imagine the son of a coach would play and that’s because he is one. Cade is the son of St. Mary’s head coach Randy Bennett and his high IQ offensive game impressed onlookers. Bennett hit open catch-and-shoot 3-pointers, made the extra pass to open shooters and isn’t a player who dribbles the air out of the ball or forces many offensive actions, even in an all-star game.
Joseph Hunter, San Joaquin Memorial
Hunter is long, athletic and skilled at 6-feet-3. The incoming ninth grader is scheduled to attend San Joaquin Memorial in Fresno to begin his prep career and looks to be ready to contribute right away. Hunter used his size advantage to clean the defensive glass, then showed the ability to lead the break and make good basketball decisions in transition. Hunter is a crafty finisher around the basket and walked in to a couple smooth jumpers from deep.
Kristian Jemerson, St. Hedwig
Jemerson has a quick first step on the perimeter, which allows him to get into the paint at-will and finish with either hand around the basket. The rangy 6-foot-2 off-guard uses his long strides to get his shoulder past and beat defenders without needing to put the ball on the floor and is a quick leaper with good body control when finishing.
Christian Moore, who will be attending Brentwood high school, was one of the top performers in the Elite 100 Future Stars all-star game.Aidan Mahaney, Campolindo
Mahaney has an advanced feel for the game for his class. He makes impressive reads in the half-court setting in high ball-screen action, but can also break a defender down in isolation with his crafty ball skills and change of speeds and direction. Mahaney isn’t just an off-the-dribble type of player, though, as he is a consistent 3-point shooting threat off the catch..
Christian Moore, Brentwood
Moore was probably the best all-around prospect in this all-star game. The 6-foot-4 Brentwood High product has a true point forward skill set as he can contest and block shots in the paint, rebound the defensive glass at a high level and find teammates with vision and willingness to get off the ball. Moore can operate offensively both on or off the ball and has inside-out scoring ability.
Randi Ovalle, San Gabriel Academy
Ovalle was one of the more intriguing prospects in this game. At 6-feet-6, the San Gabriel Academy attendee has a versatile scoring package that features dexterity around the basket and the ability to extend his range to the mid-range and 3-point levels.
