DMV Hoop Madness: New emerging names in 2027

DMV Hoop Madness brought teams from up and down the east coast to the Baltimore area for a loaded two-day slate of games. After taking in all of the action on Saturday, we came away with a handful of new 2027 names to monitor. Back in the DMV, Tshiabidi is finishing up at Mt. Zion after spending time at SEED School of Baltimore before a detour to prep school in Georgia. Starting at the '5' for a MZP group devoid of a true post presence, he brings consistent energy on both ends of the floor while primarily sticking to a confined role. He thrives as a versatile defender with the length and vertical pop to help protect the rim but the quickness and agility to chop his feet with smaller ballhandlers on the perimeter. Toss in some opportunistic post scoring against mismatches and you have a really intriguing piece to continue developing for a scholarship-level program that values athleticism and defensive versatility up front. A post-grad via Ohio, James will run the show for a high-octane Bridgeport Prep lineup and impressed with his balanced game on Saturday. James is strong and compact and plays a no-nonsense game as a true floor general. He did well to keep the ball moving while spoonfeeding teammates for open looks both from 3 and around the rim. He's capable of knocking down open shots from 3 in his own right and brings nice physicality and intensity to the point of attack on the other end of the floor. College coaches in the region who value a throwback-style lead guard should start getting familiar with James in his new locale. Transferring in from Illinois to spend his final year of high school playing a national schedule with Mt. Zion, Miller shows real intrigue with his blend of size and feel on the perimeter. He slides seamlessly across the positional spectrum as a big guard who can initiate offense or make plays from the wing. A smooth athlete with nice wiry strength, he's a poised decisionmaker with the ball in his hands and shows flashes of versatile shotmaking ability from beyond the arc. Miller understandably looks to still be getting his feet under him in his new environment but it's clear why he's generated significant steam on the recruiting trail in the Midwest. Bridgeport Prep took a tough loss to defending EYBL Scholastic champion Montverde Academy (FL) but Worthy was sure to make his presence felt throughout the game nonetheless. Wiry strong with good size and explosive athleticism, the Georgia native was up to the task of contending with Montverde's cadre of high-major athletes. He showed great intensity and versatility on the defensive end while also flashing improved touch as a shooter both off the catch from the perimeter and in self-created situations in the midrange. Worthy turned down a slew of football offers to take a post-grad year in pursuit of his basketball goals and D1 programs in the Northeast would be wise to take notice before much longer. Central Dauphin returns the bulk of its production from last year's state championship team, but one notable change will be DeVan slotting into the starting five after seeing limited minutes off the bench a year ago. Part of a high-octane backcourt attack, he showed nice plug-and-play utility while consistently finding ways to fit in and impact the game efficiently. DeVan showed poise as a secondary ballhandler with the ability to make some reads as a pick-and-roll playmaker. His quickness in the open floor also fits right in with a Rams lineup that loves to get out in transition. He may never be asked to carry a heavy scoring load but DeVan's efficient contributions should help him find a spot at the next level by season's end.
