Continue ReadingJubie Alade is now a senior and has stepped into a bigger role. He can be seen bringing the ball up for the 6-2 Robbinsdale Armstrong Falcons, Alade is shooting more and more jumpers off the bounce, he’s the team’s second leading scorer at over 13 points a game, and Jubie of course is still a top defender.
“Jubie has a different mindset this year,” coach Greg Miller said. “He is focused in practice in every drill. He is listening to his coaches and applying the small details of what we are teaching.
“Jubie’s performance in practice is starting to transfer to games which is exciting for our team. He is starting to realize he can dominate games when he is aggressive. He has 20 points or more in three of the last four games.”
Alade had a season high 20 in a win over Totino-Grace and 22 in a recent win over St. Louis Park. His all around performance is a big reason the Falcons have barely skipped a beat despite graduating so much talent a year ago.
“We are much better than we were in our first two games (Wayzata loss and Cooper win),” Miller said. “We are playing together well and running our offense much more smoothly. Mixing a good junior varsity team from last year with three returners has taken a little time and we still have a long ways to go to be championship caliber.
“We have been pressing man to man with some success and our half court defense has been improving (especially second half of St. Louis Park game and our Totino game). We need to take care of the ball better and rebound much better (boxing out is an issue).”
Alade will play college basketball. But will it be at the MIAC or NSIC level? That is what will sort itself out over the next four months.
“St. Thomas and St. Johns are at every game including John Tauer at a game. I am surprised the Mankato State, Winona State, St. Cloud State type teams aren’t looking at him more, he can be good at those places. Jubie really likes St. Thomas and St. Johns and he has a high GPA and ACT so they may be a good fit for him.”
