Shooting:

[player_tooltip player_id='2419755' first='Tillman' last='Papcun'] - Norwalk

Speaking of shooting -- Papcun was one of the biggest risers in 5A this year because of his ability to knock down shots consistently. Shooting an eye-popping 42.1% on 152 attempts from deep this season, Papcun's rise made Norwalk a legitimate threat in 5A on any given night, and it will likely give him an opportunity to get his school paid for at the next level.

Size:

[player_tooltip player_id='2204081' first='Charlie' last='King'] - Des Moines Rooselvelt

Standing at 6-foot-6, King could certainly fall into the "small forward" category, but his skillset translates to guard play, and he is listed as a combo guard here on Prep Hoops Iowa. That frame allows him to do a few more things on the court defensively, and it provides more opportunities defensively and in terms of court vision in transition. He could very easily fall into the shooting category here, too, as he's been one of the best, most consistent shooters on the EYCL circuit this summer.

Clutch Gene:

[player_tooltip player_id='2754678' first='Michael' last='Gordon'] - Bettendorf

I mean, how many game-winning shots does a kid have to hit to be considered clutch? Two in the latter part of the season is probably a worthy amount. First, Gordon handled the rock just past halfcourt off a turnoer and stepped into a triple from way outside before burying it to defenat Muscatine, 60-57 in January. Then with 1.5 seconds left against Davenport Central in mid-February, Gordon caught a tip-pass from his big and drilled an off-ballance, off one foot three fading to his right to defeat the Devils, 57-56 at home.

Confidence:

[player_tooltip player_id='2114707' first='Karson' last='Rains'] - Linn Mar

One of my personal favorite prospects in the state, I was stunned at Rains' ability to shoot the rock this last season for Linn-Mar. Willing and able to shoot the rock from anywhere, one could feel the self-belief and confidence oozing from Rains from the moment he stepped on the court. With a smooth stroke and the ability to shoot off-platform, quick, angled shots, Rains has the mindset that makes him a killer on the court for the Lions.

Versatility:

[player_tooltip player_id='2419714' first='Evan' last='Abbott']

Partially thanks to his size, and he could be interchangeable with King here, Abbott can do so many different things on the court, and he did for Ballard this last season. Able to score at all three levels, pass the ball and defend multiple positions thanks to his size and athleticism, Abbott was one of the players in the state that could go to a place like Ballard and be exactly what they needed -- in scoring, defense, playmaking, etc. -- to win the state title.
