I will never be convinced that playing hard is not a skill because there is a significant gap between those who play hard and compete and those who do not. Saxton falls in the first category as his energy and effort made a massive difference for his team. Despite being maybe the smallest guy on the court, Saxton got multiple offensive rebounds and had a couple nice kickout and advance pass assists. Excellent impact by Saxton for his team on Friday.

Being able to make shots and score the basketball on a top shoe circuit is easier said than done and Bowman had another big game shooting the basketball on the perimeter with a handful of catch and shoot 3-pointers. Bowman does a nice job mixing from being a primary ball handler and spot-up shooter, giving him value both on and off the ball depending on what his team needs from him. I'll be looking for Bowman to stay in the weight room this fall to get stronger and add an impact in the rebounding category for his team by the time his junior year rolls around to continue to round out his game.

One of the most skilled guards in the 2028 class, Norris had a strong opening game in a statement win over 99OVR in a rematch of the 15 U 3SSB championship. Norris does a nice job playing with pace and using hesitation moves to throw off the defense. Norris does a nice job staying in control on the ball and seems to never get rushed. When Norris can find ways to beat his primary defender off the dribble and gain separation he is extremely tough to slow down.

One of the most packed games of the day was Phenom United Vs Atlanta Celtics 17 U with dozens of college coaches in attendance. Evans made some winning plays by getting loose balls, running in transition and rebounding. With tons of mid to high major athletes on the court, Evans certainly looked like he belonged as he scored it, rebounded it and made some defensive impact. Expect college coaches to continue to flock to Phenom United 17 U games as the weekend continues.

Playing up an age group, Trenz was one of the most productive 16 U players I saw on Friday night. Trenz is assertive in the paint as he uses his wide frame and lower body to seal and create space on power jump stops at the rim. Skilled enough to finish with both hands at the basket and athletic enough to play above the rim, Trenz was scoring early and often in the paint. Trenz flashed some 3-point shooting during the high school season and when that becomes consistent enough to make shots at the shoe circuit level, watch out because his upside is extremely high long term.

Indiana Elite 15 U are a dominant group who have been steamrolling anybody and everybody in their way. The overall size, strength and physicality they play with is so impressive and Da Silva is a major difference maker for their group on both ends of the court. Defensively is where Da Silva had the biggest impact using his length to jump passing lanes and block shots. In transition, Da Silva is a fluid athlete who used his length to reach past shot contests and finish at the rim. When Da Silva is also making jumpers it's a long night for whoever has to guard him and he knocked down a couple in the blowout win over a solid Team Lillard 15 U squad.

Phenom United 15 U got a nice win to end my night as they had a handful of players contribute to the victory. I landed on Deloney as my standout from their group as his rebounding and interior scoring was valuable for their group. Deloney has a long wingspan, is a quick leaper and plays hard which makes him a strong rebounder at the 15 U level. Offensively, Deloney is still developing his skills but he had a nice catch and patient turn and finish on the block on Friday night. Africentric always has long and hungry athletes and Deloney should be next in line to be a star from the Nubians program.
