Day 1 of 15U at Rocky Mountain Mayhem brought a different kind of energy, as this was about discovery. A number of players we didn't have much background on stepped in and made themselves known right away. It wasn't about hype, just production, feel, and making the right plays over and over. By the end of the day, these were the names that kept coming up and forced their way onto the radar.

Williams brings a fundamentally sound approach with size and versatility that shows up in multiple areas of the game, and I was a bit surprised to see that he's a class of 2030 playing up and standing out. He's comfortable operating out of the high post; he makes reads, sets screens, and plays within structure. Williams has reliable midrange touch and runs the floor well. He's also not afraid to use his body to create space and rebounds with purpose. Williams is a steady presence whose feel and fundamentals give him long-term value, and it was good to get him on our radar early.

Egbune was everywhere on Day 1, and anybody who watched noticed that he was one of the top players on the day. He filled it up in every way as he was taking on primary responsibilities despite being one of the taller players, was using his speed and athleticism to get to his spots, and could not be denied at the rim. He's long, athletic, and aggressive, and that's a recipe for success. He was looking to score and apply pressure while also facilitating. Egbune played with confidence and imposed his will in stretches, filling the stat sheet across the board. When everything clicks consistently, the upside is real, and he's a player I'm very intrigued by for Revup, who had to finish with about 20 points, 10 rebounds, and steals to go along with it.

Von Buhr is a confident scorer who caught rhythm early, and that altered how he was defended for the rest of the game. He has real shot-making ability with range and needs only a split second to get it off. Von Buhr hit multiple threes and handled defensive pressure without rushing, adjusting when defenses extended and tried to pick him up higher by getting rid of the ball faster. He plays with composure and understands how to stay effective even when the game shifts, and that happened after he knocked down two big 3-pointers to keep his team in the game. His ability to shoot it, put it on the floornand calm decision-making make him a player who quietly influences the flow of a game, and I want to see if it continues throughout the tournament.

McCarthy is a true floor spacer who stays shot-ready and needs a bit of space before he lets it go. McCarthy capitalized when the defense broke or lost him in the half-court set, and he got off some clean looks. What stood out was his ability to move without the ball; he seems to understand spacing, and when they take that away he makes cuts that kids at that age typically don't. He also showed flashes as a connector with entry passes and solid court awareness. McCarthy's ability to stretch the floor and play within the flow of the offense gives him value as he develops, and I liked what I saw from him on Day 1.

West flashed a high-level skillset early in the game that had him looking like one of the most complete players in the 15U part of the tournament. He showed a solid and confident handle, he made shots, and his defensive impact turned into an electric stretch where he extended the lead by himself. He moves well and wants to get in on the action. He also created separation with his crossover and knocked down shots, while also making plays on the defensive end. When he stays aggressive, he controls the pace and flow, and now he just has to keep that switch on for the entire game. The tools are there to be a player worth knowing in this class, and now it's about sustaining that pressure throughout the game. Huge Day 1 performance by him that leaves me intrigued.

Teff stood out as a well-rounded guard who consistently made winning plays that kept his team in it. He showed toughness handling pressure, defending quick guards, stepping down on the block, and converting in transition. Teff plays with a steady pace, allowing the game to come to him while still competing at a high level, and that turned into easy steals and finishes. Teff brings a mix of skill and intangibles that impact both ends, and his composure suggests there's more to his game. I was very intrigued by his game as he seems versatile and can switch it up at times. His play demands me to watch more throughout the weekend.
