Recruiting Report: Khalyl Simmons (2020)
This past season, Khalyl Simmons played for new program Inspire Prep in Orlando.
The 2020 guard debuted in the SIAA for the upstart program. He earned a 4.2 GPA and is an honors and AP student.
A 6’1″, 178-pounder, he has no offers yet but he’s drawn interest from Stetson, VCU and Coastal Carolina.
Simmons was at Orlando Christian Prep as a freshman and says he learned a lot from his year there.
“It took time for me to adjust to that type of play, but in the end, I really appreciate the opportunity I was given there. Rondo (Segu), Nassir (Little) and Jordan (Rodriguez) really helped me more than just on the court,” Simmons told Prep Hoops. “They were all great leaders and taught me a lot while we played together, but they mostly taught me how to be a better teammate.
The thing I loved most about OCP was that we were a family. Everyone was close and pushed each other to be better. That doesn’t stop with just the three of them, each one of my teammates has taught me a lot and they will always be my brothers.”
This summer, Simmons is playing with Infinite Skillz, a program he’s been with since 7th grade. He calls everyone there family.
“The coaches over Infinite Skillz have helped me elevate my game so much since then and I am so thankful for the time, effort and loyalty all of them have put into me,” he said. “This summer has been a great learning curve for me and has been very successful.”
He pointed to his scoring at all three levels and defensive play as his biggest strengths.
“I would like to become a better leader and learn how to make my teammates better around me,” Simmons said. “I feel that if I can lead by example and learn how to criticize positively I can get the most out of my teammates and we can grow together.”
Simmons is going to take the next step forward at Inspire Prep as a junior. He’s proven his worth as a passer and scorer but as he grows as a vocal leader he’ll increase his value.
