Recruiting Report: Kenan Blackshear (2019)
Basketball runs in Kenan Blackshear’s veins.
The 2019 Jones forward comes from a family of hoops stars. His parents, Kerry and Lamila both set records at Stetson while his older brother Kerry is a core starter at Virginia Tech. His sister Kayla is a rising sophomore coming off a freshman season where she averaged 11 PPG at Lake Highland Prep.
So for Kenan, he’s transformed into a leader over the past year. He says his jump shot has improved and his ability to take over games. When watching him in person, he uses every inch of his 6’5″, 210-pound frame to use his advantage as a shooter and attacker.
Playing with Game Speed Elite again this summer, Blackshear is drawing the eye of college programs. He earned his first offer during the first April live period from Wofford.
Blackshear said Wofford likes his versatility, ability to score and his ability to get others involved.
He says he likes Wofford because it is a good program that has pieces in place to beat good teams such as North Carolina and Georgia Tech.
He’s also drawn interest from Virginia Tech, Mercer, Belmont, FSU and Navy.
Blackshear says he’s felt his overall game grow since joining Game Speed Elite two years ago.
“I felt I got harder to guard in a sense becoming a role player to a go two guy,” he said.
In terms of his biggest strengths, Blackshear says that his ability to get to the basket, score and pass. He’s aiming to improve his overall jumper and post up moves.
College coaches have told him that he would be used on the court anywhere from the 1, 2 or 3. I’ve seen him lead the break and guard the opposing team’s best player. As a 2 or 3, he’d be a very reliable player.
A true student of the game and high IQ player, Blackshear should see his stock rise this summer.
