Saturday Standouts
We take a quick look at some of the players that we saw on Saturday at the Freedom Sportsplex Tournament here in Fayetteville, NC. Although it was a smaller tournament, there was a nice amount of under the radar players, as well as a few names that you know.
Jesus Peace 17U Arshon King: A player that we have seen quite a bit this season, he can score the ball at a very high rate, and there was no difference on Saturday. Even though he was playing with a team that he hasn’t played with a ton of times, he got it done on both ends in blowout fashion. Speaking with him after the tournament he is still deciding between quite a few schools with most of them being JC programs.
Fayetteville Spurs Guard Alijah Miles: His up-tempo style of play helped his teams success throughout the day, he got into the paint at a nice rate and forced some players into turnovers. Offensively when he attacked he was able to finish well in traffic around taller defenders.
Jesus Peace 17U Forward Aireus Byrd: The big man was a beast on the boards as well blocking and altering shots at a nice rate. When he caught the ball on the block he was efficient and made the correct plays when he needed to pass the ball outside of the post.
NC Dreamchasers 2019 Guard Matthew O’Connor: One of the best guards that we saw on the day, he enjoyed success when breaking down the defense as well as finding teammates and making the correct pass. Although he has the ability to shoot he looks to get his teammates involved earlier and often , very impressive showing from this young man.
NC Dreamchasers 2019 Guard Jalen Thomas: In the game we watched he went for 35 points, he scored from all over the floor and was highly efficient. The crazy part of his performance may have been the fact that he didn’t even have a jersey, so he was the player dominating the game in a plain blue shirt.
