O’Neill was excellent this weekend for Tabor Academy and couldn’t have looked more comfortable and solid in his first NEPSAC play. The 6-foot-2 guard wasn’t remotely rattled by the increased physicality, size, or athleticism. In fact, I actually think this level of play really suits the rising sophomore, because he’s able to use his IQ and feel to run the show and make higher level decisions. O’Neill shot the ball well from three, he showed off his big-time strength on drives to the rim, and he was unselfish as a facilitator. Tabor has a bunch of new faces and should be really solid this season with O’Neill at the helm of the offense.

O’Neill has had some bad injury luck to start this AAU season, but he is a super exciting piece for Tabor to add to their squad next season. The 6-foot-2 guard is a true point guard with great passing and shooting ability and a knack for playing at his own pace and using craft in the paint. He really excelled at Swampscott High School this past season, but I actually think his game translates better to higher level hoops where he can play with smarter cutters, screeners, and big men. I wouldn’t be surprised if O’Neill runs the show for Tabor this season and surprises the NEPSAC as one of the more effective 2029s.

O’Neill, a guard out of Swampscott High School in Massachusetts, was a standout performer this winter in the MIAA. The 6’1″ guard proved to be a big-time scorer this winter, showing the ability to create his own shot or slide off the basketball and operate as a catch and shoot specialist. He plays with a good feel for pace and knows how to change speeds to create an advantage. He makes good decisions with the ball in his hands and does a nice job of creating for others, particularly in transition. He’ll run this spring and summer with Team Sims.

O’Neil was dominant this year for Swampscott and was arguably the best player in MIAA division 3. The 6-foot-2 combo-guard handled EVERYTHING for his squad all year—he was his team’s best scorer but also their best facilitator. The sophomore doesn’t have crazy athleticism or quickness, but he’s super strong and is always on-balance in the lane. He has no offensive weakness and reads the game at a super high level for a high-schooler, let alone one at his age. O’Neil will be transferring to Tabor Academy next season, and it’ll be awesome to see what he does playing at a higher level of competition.

Though he was relatively limited for most of the game, O’Neill still showcased the skills that have made him an MIAA star. The 6-foot-2 guard has incredible strength and effortlessly moves defenders off him in the paint—he wasn’t hitting his mid-range shots yesterday, but he took a bunch of really good looks. He’s also an excellent rebounder for his size and uses his length and height to see passes over the defense. I imagine O’Neill will be at a prep school next season, and it’ll be awesome to see how he fares at that level.

O’Neill is, in my opinion, the best player in MIAA D3. The 6-foot-2 point guard plays like a mini Luka Doncic—he moves at his own pace and uses his strong body to get to spots on the floor, but he can get to his shot whenever he wants and has a knack for finding his teammates with creative passes. O’Neill is only a sophomore but has maxed out what he can do at the MIAA level, so he’ll probably be at a prep school in the near future. Maybe he can go out with a bang this season, though.

O’Neill, a sophomore guard out of Swampscott High School, was featured here as an “Underclassman to Watch” before the season began and has certainly lived up to that billing this winter. O’Neill kicked off the season in style by going for ultra efficient 43 points, that included 7 made threes. The 6’2″ guard plays with a whole lot of skill, but also seperates himself with his toughness and work ethic. While he’s a primary on-ball option for Swampscott, he’s shown the ability to get off the ball, find space in the defense, and get hot in a hurry from behind the arc in catch and shoot situations. Where his game has really developed is off the bounce, as he’s turned himself into one of the better mid-range scorers in the MIAA this year.
