Most Surprising Team This Season
We all have heard of the term during the NCAA Tournament called ” Cinderella Teams”, well during this season there was a group of team that could fit into this classification in the state of NC. Lets takes a look at some of the teams that surprised many but in a pleasant way, as you can see, many of these teams will return players and should be in the mix for good seasons next year.
New Life Christian Academy: Prior to the season when you mentioned the Monarchs, many people in the area did not have an idea of who they were. However New Life brought in some very nice 2020, 2019 and 2018 talent and they meshed well early on, which allowed them to enjoy early success.
Accomplishments: Record of 33-11, EAAC Conference Champs, CAASC State Champs, NACA National Champions
Pamlico County HS: What a season for the Hurricanes, they didn’t have a high amount of players that the average fan would know about. Instead they got things done by committee and used their stellar defense to help them get their offense going early and often.
Accomplishments: Record of 22-6, NCHSAA East Region Champions, NCHSAA State 1A Runner up.
Farmville Central HS: With the loss of star guard Tyler Maye, and a team that didn’t return many upper classmen, the Jaguars were a team that many felt like would struggle while going through growing pains this season. However this was far from the case as the squad hit the ground running and put together a very impressive season led by Sophomore Guard Justin Wright and Freshman Guard Terquavion Smith.
Accomplishments: Record of 22-4, Conference Champions, Eastern Regional Semi-Finalist
Trask HS: Their season ended earlier than they would have like but during the regular season, they caught a lot of attention with their high level of play. One of the main reasons why was Sophomore Guard Jajuan Carr, he put the team on his back and played at a very high level throughout the season.
Accomplishments: Final Record of 25-3, Conference Championship
